Wednesday NHL Sharp Report

vgk

The MLB season is now just 24-hours away. Until then, bettors have 6 NBA games and 5 NHL games to choose from tonight. For an extensive breakdown of Wednesday's betting action, be sure to tune in to the VSiN Market Insights Podcast with Josh Appelbaum. It will be posted by 3 p.m. ET. I'll also be co-hosting Betting Across America with Mike Pritchard from 3 to 4 p.m. ET.

In the meantime, let's discuss where respected money is flowing for several NHL games tonight...

7:30 p.m. ET: Detroit Red Wings (27-34-9) at Winnipeg Jets (33-27-10)

This non-conference showdown features one team knocking at the door of the playoffs and another all but eliminated. The Red Wings are coming off a 4-2 win over the Bruins last night, cashing as +175 home dogs. The win snapped a six-game losing skid, although Detroit is still 21-points back of the final Wild Card spot in the East. Meanwhile, the Jets have dropped two straight and just fell to the Kings 3-2, losing as -130 home favorites. Still, Winnipeg is just seven points back of the final Wild Card spot in the West. This line opened with Winnipeg listed as a hefty -260 home favorite and Detroit a +230 road dog. Pros have laid the big chalk with Winnipeg, steaming the Jets up from -260 to -280. Home favorites with a line move in their favor are 251-121 (67%) this season. The Jets also enjoy a massive "rest vs tired" advantage. Detroit is on the second leg of a back-to-back and is playing their third game in four days. Conversely, the Jets haven't played since Saturday. Favorites against teams on a back-to-back are 154-65 (70%). The Jets are 21-16 as a favorite and 19-14-2 at home. The Red Wings are 14-38 as a dog and 9-21-3 on the road.

10 p.m. ET: Calgary Flames (41-19-9) at Anaheim Ducks (28-31-12)

These Western Conference foes are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Calgary is 5-3-2 over their last ten games and just beat Los Angeles 3-2, cashing as -170 road favorites. The Flames currently occupy the 1-seed in the Pacific Division. On the flip side, Anaheim is 1-7-2 over their last ten games and just fell to Edmonton 6-1, losing as +175 home dogs. The Ducks are well below the playoff line of demarcation. This line opened with the Flames listed as a -220 road favorite and the Ducks a +200 home dog. Pros aren't outsmarting themselves on this one. They've steamed the Flames up from -220 to -250. Big road favorites -200 or more are 78-25 (76%) this season. Favorites off a win are 414-211 (66%). When both teams missed the playoffs the previous year, the favorite is 148-76 (66%). Calgary is 33-20 as a favorite and 20-11-2 on the road. Anaheim is 14-35 as a dog and just 16-16-5 at home. Calgary holds the edge offensively (3.5 GPG vs 2.8 GPG) and defensively (allowing 2.5 GPG vs 3.2 GPG).

10 p.m. ET: Vancouver Canucks (32-28-10) at Vegas Golden Knights (39-28-4)

Both of these Pacific Division rivals are on the outside looking in when it comes to a playoff berth. Vancouver has dropped three straight and is just 3-9 over their last 12 games. On the flip side, Vegas is riding a five-game winning streak. These teams just met up on Sunday and the Knights won 3-2, cashing as -115 road favorites. In tonight's rematch, Vegas opened as a -150 home favorite and Vancouver a +130 home dog. Pros are thinking "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and have gotten down on Vegas, driving the Knights up from -150 to -160. Rested favorites who have had at least three days since their last game are 135-63 (68%) this season. Home favorites off a win against an opponent off a loss are 149-68 (69%). Vegas is 29-16 as a favorite. Vancouver is 18-27 as a dog. Both teams are allowing roughly 3 GPG. The difference comes on offense, where Vegas is averaging 3.2 GPG compared to Vancouver's 2.8 GPG. The total is 5.5 with the over juiced to -120, signaling a possible rise to 6.
