Today bettors have 15 MLB games. For an updated breakdown of Wednesday's betting action, be sure to tune in to the VSiN Market Insights Podcast with Josh Appelbaum. It will be posted at 1 p.m. ET. I'll also be co-hosting Betting Across America with Mike Pritchard from 3-5 p.m. ET.
In the meantime, let's discuss where the money is flowing for a trio of MLB games today...
7:10 p.m. ET: Los Angeles Angels (60-61) at Detroit Tigers (58-63)
The Angels stole last night's series opener 8-2, cashing as + 130 road dogs. In tonight's rematch, Los Angeles hands the ball to two-way star Shohei Ohtani (7-1, 2.93 ERA) and Detroit counters with lefty Tarik Skubal (8-10, 4.10 ERA). This line opened with the Angels listed as a -140 road favorite and the Tigers a + 130 home dog. The public is rushing to the window as fast as they can to back Ohtani. However, despite this lopsided betting we've seen the Angels fall from -140 to -130. This signals some sharp reverse line movement on the home dog Tigers (+ 130 to + 120). Detroit is one of the top contrarian plays of the day and also has value as a dog with a high total. Non-division home teams receiving 10-cents of steam or more are 211-128 (62.2%) this season. If they're also coming off a loss, these teams improve to 90-51 (63.8%). The Tigers are 33-28 at home, including 22-20 as a home dog (+ 11 units). The Angels are 27-31 on the road. We could also be looking at a higher scoring game in this one. The total is 8.5 with the over juiced to -120, signaling a possible rise to 9. The over is 4-1 between these two teams this season.
8:05 p.m. ET: Seattle Mariners (64-56) at Texas Rangers (42-77)
The Mariners took care of business in Tuesday's series opener, beating the Rangers 3-1 as -130 road favorites. Seattle is 6-2 over their last eight games and now just 4-games back of the second Wild Card spot in the American League. Meanwhile, the Rangers are just 3-10 over their last 13 games and have the 4th-worst record in MLB. In tonight's rematch, Seattle gives the ball to lefty Marco Gonzales (4-5, 4.35 ERA) and Texas sends out righty Mike Foltynewicz (2-11, 5.66 ERA). This line opened with Seattle listed as a -160 road favorite and Texas a + 150 home dog. Wiseguys aren't outsmarting themselves on this one. They're backing the hotter team with the better record, steaming Seattle up from -160 to -170. The Mariners have owned the Rangers this season, going 11-6 head-to-head. Seattle is 38-34 against righties. Texas is 21-25 against lefties. Ryan Blakney, the home plate ump, has historically favored road teams (54%). Sharps seem to be leaning on a lower-scoring game. The total is 9 with the under juiced to -115. The under has cashed in three straight head-to-head matchups.
8:10 p.m. ET: Oakland Athletics (68-52) at Chicago White Sox (70-50)
The White Sox have taken the first two games of this series, winning the opener 5-2 as + 110 home dogs and winning against last night 9-0 as + 100 home dogs. In tonight's rematch, the Athletics start lefty Cole Irvin (8-11, 3.52 ERA) and the White Sox trot out ace righty Lance Lynn (10-3, 2.26 ERA). This line opened with Chicago listed as a -170 home favorite and Oakland a + 155 road dog. Sharps are riding the hot hand and backing the White Sox once again at home, steaming Chicago up from -170 to -185. Non-division home favorites are 378-238 (61.4%) this season. Home favorites off a win are 408-262 (60.9%). Oakland is 15-19 as a dog. Chicago is 60-33 as a favorite, including 36-19 (65.5%) as a home favorite. The White Sox also mash lefties, going 21-12 overall this season against southpaws. Chicago will lean on their bats in this one. The White Sox are hitting .251, which ranks 6th-best in MLB. The Athletics are hitting .237, which ranks 20th. Pros are leaning on the under, as we've seen this total fall from 9 to 8.5. The forecast calls for high 70s with 5 MPH winds blowing in from center.
