VSiN contest winner James Salinas with Brent Musburger.

James Salinas, winner of the first VSiN Beat The Spread Challenge, appeared on “My Guys in the Desert” with Brent Musburger on Saturday and explained the secrets to his success.

Salinas is a Colorado resident but a familiar name around Las Vegas because of his $914,000 victory in the Westgate SuperContest for handicapping the 2015 NFL season.

Salinas, who came out on top of more than 1,000 entries in the VSiN contest, won $1,000 and spent the weekend at the South Point Hotel and Casino as his reward.

Salinas said he focused on the NFL handicapping until February and then turned his attention to college basketball. He started slowly on the first weekend of the NCAA tournament, but finished 13-1-1 to win the VSiN contest easily.

Individual round winners were (Round 1) Bryan Martuscello of Calif., (Round 2) Joseph Freda of Mass., and (Round 3) Michael Bruder of N.J. Each won $250.
