There’s no possible Triple Crown this year, but Team Tuley continues to look for value from coast to coast.
Last Saturday, our friend Ed Sehon gave out the Late Pick 4 at Belmont ($102.87, chalky but a win’s a win), I had Get Smokin ($10.80 Win payoff at 4-1) in the Seek Again Stakes at Belmont and added Going Global ($3.60 Win payoff at 4-5) in the Honeymoon Stakes at Santa Anita in my 1/ST BET A.I. Pick of the Week (see vsin.com/horses for that weekly pick in addition to other plays).
This Saturday, we’re finding what we hope are solid plays as Sehon has two spot plays and a Pick 4 at Belmont (though he dropped an exacta box after scratches), Rampart race & sports book manager Duane Colucci added a spot play at Belmont plus his take on the Pick 4 on Saturday morning while I have a play each from Gulfstream and Santa Anita.
Good luck today (and every day!).
Belmont Race No. 3 (2:02 p.m. ET/11:02 a.m. PT)
Ed Sehon likes #4 First Captain (6-5 morning line). “Late-blooming, 3-year-old son of the mighty Curlin went to my DRF Watch List immediately following his debut Maiden Special Weights triumph five weeks ago. Colt stretches out to one-turn mile for Shug McGaughey after earning a superior 93 Beyer Speed Rating at seven furlongs. Jose Ortiz retains mount. I’ll be the first to salute captain’s repeat victory. Wager: Win.”
Belmont Race No. 5 (3:02 p.m. ET/12:02 p.m. PT)
Ed Sehon liked a 3-6-9-10 exacta box overnight, but is dropping it as 9 & 10 were scratched Saturday morning.
Belmont Race No. 6 (3:34 p.m. ET/12:34 p.m. PT)
Ed Sehon likes #6 Bronx Bomber (5-2 morning line). “This 5-year-old gelded NY-bred son of Take Charge Indy has been knocking at the door for conditioner Rudy Rodriquez since being claimed in January, losing each sprint by a neck. No one gets runners to winner’s circle more often than Irad Ortiz Jr. Bambino slams home run today. Wager: Win.”
Belmont Races Nos. 7-10 (4:06 p.m. ET/1:06 p.m. PT)
Ed Sehon likes the following $.50 Pick 4 (cost $30)
Race 7: 3,4,6,8,16 (5,9 & 11 scratched)
Race 8: 2,5,9,10 (3 scratched)
Race 9: 5
Race 10: 4,6,14 (1,3 scratched)
Duane Colucci likes the following $.50 Pick 4 (cost $24)
Race 7: 3,6,14,16
Race 8: 5,7,8,9
Race 9: 8
Race 10: 4,6,13
Belmont Race No. 9 (5:12 p.m. ET/2:12 p.m. PT)
Duane Colucci likes #8 Safe Conduct (6-1 morning line, probably lower after other scratches). “This colt ran super in a wire-to-wire victory over this course early this month. Since the victory, two bullet workouts ensure fitness. Trainer Phil Serpe and jockey Jose Lezcano team up for a whopping 44% win rate and a $16.41 ROI over a nine-race sample. Come and catch him if you can. Bet #8 to Win.”
Gulfstream Race No. 11 (5:35 p.m. ET/2:35 p.m. PT)
Dave Tuley likes #7 Loriloupies (10-1 morning line) in the $75,000 Musical Romance Stakes. “There are some others in this 6 1/2-furlong sprint with early speed, but none as consistent as this 4-year old filly. She’s stepping up in class, but I think she can wire this field under Emisael Jaramillo (20% with early types and 23% in sprints). Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. is good at placing his horses and is 27% with those that won their last race and 25% with horses off a layoff of 46-90 days. Anything around 10-1 is a bargain. Wager: Win & Place.”
Santa Anita Race No. 4 (5:41 p.m. ET/2:41 p.m. PT)
Dave Tuley likes #1 Queen Stormborn (6-1 morning line). “Assuming this 4-year-old filly breaks well from the inside post, I don’t see who’s going to keep up with her. I also like the fact she’s shortening up from 6 1/2 furlongs to 6 furlongs as that should help her hold off these others as she’s given up late leads in each of her last two races. We also get a seven-pound weight break with apprentice jockey Juan Espinoza, and that should also help.” Wager: Win (Place only if she drifts up to 10-1).”
Note: also check out our A.I. Pick of the Week at vsin.com/horses as we’ve gone 7-for-13 since taking over the feature for a nice ROI of $2.77 for every $2 wagered to Win. There are also more plays from 1ST/BET handicappers on that page at vsin.com/horses.
