Tuley's Thoroughbred Takes for races on Saturday, July 24

Our friend, Ed Sehon, has broken out on his own with “Mr. Ed’s Saratoga on (about) $100 a Day” feature at vsin.com/horses during the 40-day meet, but Team Tuley continues to look for value at tracks from coast to coast.

Last Saturday, Rampart race & sports book manager Duane Colucci stole the show when he gave out the Late Pick 4 at Monmouth that paid $795.80, capped off when Madaloun was placed first via disqualification in the Grade 1 Haskell.

This Saturday, Colucci has two spot plays at Saratoga and Pick 4s at both Saratoga and Del Mar, John Lauro has a parlay with heavy favorites at both those tracks, I have three spot plays, plus Sehon joins us with an Early Pick 4 at Saratoga and two more plays at the Spa (note: these are in addition to his plays on the card at “Mr. Ed’s Saratoga on (about) $100 a Day,” so check those out as well for comprehensive coverage of the card).

Good luck today (and every day!). Personal note: I’ll be at Del Mar all day on Saturday, so say “hi” if you see me in the paddock or down on the rail. I’ll be sporting my black VSiN baseball cap with red lettering.

Saratoga Races Nos. 2-5 (1:41 p.m. ET/10:41 a.m. PT)

Ed Sehon likes $0.50 early Pick 4 (cost $60)

Race 2: 2,3,9

Race 3: 2,3,5,6

Race 4: 2,3,4,7,10

Race 5: 1,4

Saratoga Race No. 5 (3:23 p.m. ET/12:23 p.m. PT)

& Del Mar Race No. 10 (9:36 p.m. ET/6:36 p.m. PT)

John Lauro likes a parlay from #1 Malathaat (2-5 morning line) in the CCA Oaks at Saratoga #2 Going Global (4-5 morning line) and the San Clemente at Del Mar. “This is my parlay of the summer as Malathaat and Going Global both are the leaders in the 3-year-old filly division on dirt and turf.”

Saratoga Race No. 6 (3:55 p.m. ET/12:55 p.m. PT)

Ed Sehon likes #4 Chileno (9-2 morning line). “With the regally bred, first-time starter #7 Wataha for Chad Brown & Irad Ortiz Jr. expected to attract most of the betting interest, #4 Chileno for Steve Asmussen & Ricardo Santana, making his second start, will benefit from experience, better post and additional furlong. Value play. Wager: Win & Place on #4.”

Saratoga Race No. 7 (4:29 p.m. ET/1:29 p.m. PT)

Dave Tuley likes #7 Calibrate (6-1 morning line) “This 3-year-old colt should be able to sit right off the pace and pull the minor upset. Asmussen & Santana hitting at a 26% clip. With that in mind (plus the fact Sehon is also using Calibrate as his Price Play in “Mr. Ed’s Saratoga on (about) $100 a Day”), I’m skeptical we’ll get 6-1, but I’ll personally still bet him at 7-2 or better.”

Saratoga Race No. 8 (5:03 p.m. ET/2:03 p.m. PT)

Ed Sehon likes an exacta box of #1 Split Then Double (3-1 morning line) with #2 Baby Blythe (4-1), #3 Rastafara (5-2) and #9 Ego Trip (6-1). “Name of the game here is to beat #5 Midnight Choir (10-1) who will be a live longshot off lengthy layoff and fast work. Wager: Exacta box of 1 with 2,3,5 & 9.”

Saratoga Races Nos. 8-11 (5:03 p.m. ET/2:03 p.m. PT)

Duane Colucci likes the following $0.50 Pick 4 (cost $64)

Race 8: 1,2,3,7

Race 9: 6,8,9 (7 scratched)

Race 10: 1,2

Race 11: 3,8,10,12

Saratoga Race No. 9 (5:39 p.m. ET/2:39 p.m. PT)

Duane Colucci likes #8 Flash Magic (7-2 morning line). “Steve Asmussen runner has worked his way to the East with this fast filly. Asmussen took over for Bob Baffert and she responded with a rousing maiden victory with plenty left in the tank. Asmussen already has four wins at the meet and is using first-call rider Ricardo Santana Jr. Bet 8 to Win and key 8 over 6,7 & 9 in exactas, trifectas and reverse.”

Saratoga Race No. 10 (6:13 p.m. ET/3:13 p.m. PT)

Dave Tuley likes #3 Tass (30-1 morning line) in the Grade 3 Caress Stakes. “This 5-year-old mare will certainly have her hooves full with 6-5 favorite Robin Sparkles on the lead, but she’s cutting back in distance which could help. And at 30-1, I’ll take my chances in case Robin Sparkles doesn’t fire (it happens) and Tass is alone on the lead. Wager: Win & Place.”

Del Mar Race No. 4 (6:34 p.m. ET/3:34 p.m. PT)

Dave Tuley likes #2 Lone Scout (10-1 morning line) “There’s ample speed in this one-mile turf race for maidens to set it up for a closer like Lone Scout, who has some decent runs on the grass but hasn’t found the winner’s circle. Wager: Win & Place.”

Saratoga Race No. 11 (6:47 p.m. ET/3:47 p.m. PT)

Duane Colucci likes #8 Choose Happiness (8-1 morning line). “This Orlando Noda runner wheels right back after a week’s rest and returns with Irad Ortiz Jr. Noda and Ortiz are hitting at 36% and have a $3.70 ROI. She will be sitting close, which should favor her switching to the inner turf course. Bet 8 to Win and key 8 over 3,10 & 12 in exactas, trifectas and reverse.”

Del Mar Races Nos. 8-11 (8:36 p.m. ET/5:36 p.m. PT)

Duane Colucci likes the following $0.50 Pick 4 (cost $67.50)

Race 8: 2,4,6

Race 9: 1,3,5,6,7

Race 10: 2,9,10

Race 11: 1,8,9

Note: also check out our A.I. Pick of the Week at vsin.com/horses as we’ve gone 8-for-18 since taking over the feature for a nice ROI of $2.34 for every $2 wagered to Win. There are also more plays from 1ST/BET handicappers on that page at vsin.com/horses.
