The Breeders’ Cup is behind us, though we still have a hard time getting over my friend Ed Sehon’s Pick 5 that should have paid $584 last Friday at the Breeders’ Cup when winner Modern Games won the race after being scratched (and Mr. Ed’s bet being moved to the post-time favorite due to an outdated rule).
But that’s horse racing, and Team Tuley continues to look for value at tracks from coast to coast. Sehon and Rampart race and sports book manager Duane Colucci attack Aqueduct, including both taking a crack at the late Pick 4, while I have spot plays at Woodbine up in Canada and Del Mar on the West Coast.
Aqueduct Race No. 3 (12:49 p.m. ET/9:49 a.m. PT)
Ed Sehon likes #3 Magnetique (4-1 morning line). “This 4-year-old daughter of Normandy Invasion returns to suitable surface, gets favorite rider Kendrick Carmouche back, takes blinkers off and shortens up to 6 furlongs. Class drop seals this attractive deal. Wager: Win & Place.”
Aqueduct Races Nos. 7-10 (2:43 p.m. ET/11:43 a.m. PT)
Ed Sehon likes the following $0.50 Pick 4 (cost $48)
Race 7: 1,2,5,6
Race 8: 5
Race 9: 1,2,3,6,7,10
Race 10: 3,4,7,10
Duane Colucci likes the following $0.50 Pick 4 (cost $60)
Race 7: 1,2,3,5
Race 8: 4,5
Race 9: 1,3,6,7,11
Race 10: 3,4,7
Aqueduct Race No. 7 (2:43 p.m. ET/11:43 a.m. PT)
Ed Sehon likes #6 Ruvies in Time (6-1 morning line). “Six-time winning mare drops in for $45,000 tag while returning to favorite track. Solid recent works indicate she’s ready for form reversal. Regular rider Manny Franco climbs back aboard for veteran trainer Richard Schosberg. Wager: Win and Place as well as top-and-bottom in Exactas with 1,2 and 5.”
Aqueduct Race No. 9 (3:43 p.m. ET/12:43 p.m. PT)
Duane Colucci likes #7 En Wye Cee (8-1 morning line) in the $150,000 Artie Schiller Stakes. “This Todd Pletcher trainee was wide throughout his last race, the Knickerbocker, basically eliminating his chances. Should be sitting in a good spot behind in a race loaded with pace. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. takes over, and when combining with Pletcher at Aqueduct, they hit at 50 percent and a $2.88 ROI over the past year. Bet 7 to Win and key 7 over 1,3,6 and 11 in exactas, trifectas and reverse.”
Woodbine Race No. 7 (3:56 p.m. ET/12:56 p.m. PT)
Dave Tuley likes #2 Art of Almost (8-1 morning line) in the Grade 3 Maple Leaf Stakes. “This 5-year-old mare should be able to sit just off the pace and get first run on the other runners trying to rally from behind. Art of Almost is also 4-for-10 at this track, including winning a Grade 3 last time hereTrainer Mark Casse has been using jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson more recently as they’re hitting at 20 percent over the last two months. Wager: Win and Place.”
Del Mar Race No. 7 (6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT)
Dave Tuley likes #6 Austin’s Boy (15-1 morning line). “This 4-year-old gelding could be the speed of the speed in this 5-furlong turf sprint. He shortens up from his last outing and that should help if he’s able to set the pace under Jessica Pyfer, who also gets a 5-pound apprentice allowance. Wager: Win and Place.”
