Wednesday was a day spent catching up on some chores in and around the Tuley’s Takes home office, but also having a COVID test (came up negative) after learning a friend had tested positive. The day was also spent reminiscing about two years ago when it was unthinkable that masks, social distancing and tests (and following the news of players’ tests) would be taking up so much of our daily lives.
The day ended up with a downer as the Colorado Avalanche and Anaheim Ducks played to a scoreless 0-0 tie in the first 20 minutes of their game as we lost our best bet of the day on the First-Period Over 1.5 goals (-150).
Without further ado, let’s recap the rest of Wednesday’s betting action and try to start another winning streak with a play for Thursday.
Wednesday’s recaps
CBB: Marquette rallied to upset No. 11 Villanova 57-54 as 13.5-point road underdog and + 700 on the money line. Alabama beat No. 13 LSU 70-67; it wasn't an upset as Bama closed as a 4.5-point home favorite but the Tide didn't cover the spread.
NBA: Faves went 7-6 SU, but dogs led 7-5-1 ATS with the Clippers (+ 9.5) covering in 130-128 loss at Nuggets and the push coming in a 102-98 win by Mavericks (-4) vs. the Raptors. Upsets were by the Rockets (+ 13.5 at Jazz), Pistons (+ 7.5 at Kings), Bulls (+ 3.5 vs. Cavaliers), Pacers (+ 3.5 at Lakers), Hornets (+ 3 at Celtics) and Nets (+ 1 at Wizards). Overs went 7-6.
NHL: Dogs went 2-1 Wednesday with upsets by the Coyotes (+ 170 in 4-1 road win at the Devils) and the Rangers (+ 125 in 6-3 home win vs. the Maple Leafs). Avalanche (-260) was the one winning fave in 2-0 road win at the Ducks). Unders went 2-1.
Thursday’s Take
Avalanche-Kings First-Period Over 1.5 -140: Yes, I know the Avalanche let us down last night, but we’re sticking with them as they’re still a league-best 26-11 (70.3 percent) with 1P Overs. We’re getting a playable -140 price (opener at DraftKings) as the Kings are closer to .500 with 1P Overs, though most books here in Vegas still had it off the board early Thursday morning. Panthers-Oilers is another play I considered, but we already saw most books posting Over 2 for that 1P play. I’ll probably also parlay those two plays together in case they both hit. As always, shop around to get Over 1.5 if you can.
Good luck today (and every day!).
