Tuesday was a long day in the Tuley’s Takes home office as I was a little under the weather (nothing serious). It did cause me to end my run of Point Spread Weekly columns as I took my first week off since last July, but I’m here for the 255th straight day with the daily version of Tuley’s Takes Today.

It was looking like a losing day as Zach Gallen wasn’t his usual self and my Diamondbacks -1.5 + 105 Best Bet was looking in serious jeopardy as they fell behind 2-1 and then 3-2, but luckily the D-backs bats rallied for the second straight night and not only won the game 8-6 but got us the cover.

We split our other 2 recommended MLB plays on the Red Sox + 140 vs. the White Sox (that was a rocking-chair winner as Boston romped 16-3) but lost on the Mets + 120 at the Giants (that was another wild game as they trailed 8-2, rallied to take an 11-8 lead, but then lost 13-12) and also a play on the Flames + 100 vs. the Oilers for a small winning day.

Let’s recap the rest of Tuesday’s betting results and try to find some winners on hump day.

Tuesday’s recaps

NBA: Mavericks held off Warriors 119-109 to avoid elimination and pull within 3-1 in Western Conference Finals. The ViewFromVegas is the Mavericks covered as 1.5-point home favorites. The game went Over the betting total of 215.5 points.

More NBA: Faves improved to 5-3 SU and ATS this round. Faves lead 51-26 SU and 44-33 ATS (57.1 percent) overall. Home teams also 5-3 SU and ATS, 48-29 SU but just 41-36 ATS (53.2 percent). The zig-zag improved to 4-2 ATS this round and 34-29 ATS overall. Overs are 5-3 this round, but Unders still lead 46-31 (59.7 percent) overall.

NHL: Oilers (-115 home faves) beat Flames 5-3 Tuesday to take 3-1 lead in their 2nd-round series (game went Over 6.5). Earlier, Rangers (also -115 home faves) beat Hurricanes 4-1 to even their series 2-2 (stayed Under 5.5). Faves and home teams both went 2-0 Tuesday. Over/Unders split 1-1.

More NHL: Faves improved to 11-5 this round and lead 44-23 overall. Home teams lead 10-6 in this round, 42-25 overall. The zig-zag went 0-2 Tuesday, dropping to 2-6 SU this round and 28-27 overall. Unders lead 11-5 this round, but Overs still lead 36-29-2 (55.4 percent) overall.

MLB: Faves went 11-4, including Giants (-110) re-rallying to beat Mets 13-12. Upsets were by the Red Sox (+ 138 in 16-3 rout at White Sox), A's (+ 160 at Mariners), Rockies (+ 105 at Pirates) and Cubs (+ 100 at Reds). Home teams went 8-7. Overs went 10-4-1 with the push in the Angels’ 5-3 win vs. the Rangers with a betting total of 8 runs.

More MLB: Faves lead 383-243 SU (61.2 percent) on season with 14 games closing pick-’em (faves usually win about 59 percent, so faves still ahead of that pace). Home teams lead just 327-313 (51.1 percent, usually closer to 54 percent). Unders dropped to 324-283-33 (53.4 percent) after being better than 60 percent a month ago.

Wednesday’s Takes

Heat + 1.5 vs. Celtics: After passing on the Mavericks in their win on Wednesday (hopefully some readers bet them anyway as a zig-zag play – I didn’t like them after they failed to come through in Games 2 and 3 in that role), I am back on the Heat in the zig-zag as that’s been working better in that series with the teams alternating wins and it’s the Heat’s turn in this pivotal Game 6. We are concerned with Miami’s injury concerns, but counting on coach Erik Spoelstra having his team ready to do no matter what (and don’t we all think that it’s still Pat Riley pulling the strings?). This still looks like it’s going the full 7 games.

MLB dogs: After yesterday’s success, I hate to see most of these early-week series coming to a close, but I’ll take the Rockies + 110 at the Pirates, Brewers + 110 at the Padres, Phillies + 135 at the Braves and A’s + 150 at the Mariners and trust I’ll go at least 2-2 for an overall profit and hopefully 3-1 for a really good day.

Good luck today (and every day!).

A Numbers Game: Be careful betting baseball games right now, if they don’t involve teams still trying to make the playoffs. Teams that have clinched or teams that are completely out of it will be approaching games far differently. View more tips.
