Tuley's Takes Today: Thursday betting recaps, Friday best bets (2/25)

Thursday was a downer in the Tuley’s Takes home office as we saw our 10-0-1 ATS run in the prior 11 days and 12-day streak of showing a profit come to an end.

We lost our best bet on the Nets + 7 vs. the Celtics (and felt even better about it after getting + 9), but unfortunately the Celtics jumped out to an early lead and it was never close. That was an “anti-swagger” as we were fading the Celtics after having their 9-game winning streak snapped before the All-Star Break. We felt worse about it when the Pistons (a “swagger” play after snapping an 8-game losing streak before the break) and Timberwolves (“anti-swagger” play against the Grizzlies who had their 6-game winning streak snapped before the break) pulled the only two upsets in the Association on Thursday night. During our recent run, we made all the right calls with our best bets and on which dogs to pass, but that didn’t happen Thursday as we went with a team we liked (Nets) and didn’t feel comfortable backing two teams we didn’t like (Pistons and T-Wolves), We should have trusted the process and played all three games. Live and learn.

We lost on the day as we split our four NHL First-Period Overs plays 2-2 and also split our two CBB plays with San Diego + 12 losing by 14 and Oregon State + 10.5 covering in a 94-91 OT loss to USC.

Let’s recap the overall betting results for Thursday and try to get back on the winning track on Friday.

Thursday’s recaps

NBA: Faves went 5-2 SU and ATS as season resumed after All-Star Break. The upsets were by the Pistons (+ 5.5 in 106-103 win vs. Cavaliers) and Timberwolves (+ 2 in 119-114 win vs. Grizzlies). Overs went 4-2-1 with the push in the Cavaliers-Pistons game as the betting total was 209.

CBB: No. 22 Ohio State (+ 7, + 260 money line) upset No. 15 Illinois 86-83. Oregon (+ 2.5, + 120 ML) upset No. 12 UCLA 68-63. No. 16 USC (-10.5) escaped with a 94-91 OT win at Oregon State late Wednesday night, but didn't cover. No. 1 Gonzaga (-10.5), No. 2 Arizona (-10.5), No. 19 Murray State (-3) and No. 21 Saint Mary's (-12) covered in wins.

NHL: Faves/dogs split 4-4 with the upsets by the Blue Jackets (+ 365 in 6-3 win at Panthers), Devils (+ 235 in 6-1 rout at Penguins), Canucks (+ 140 in 7-1 rout vs. Flames) and Sharks (+ 110 in 4-3 shootout win vs. Islanders). Over/Unders also split 4-4.

Friday’s Takes

Mavericks + 6 at Jazz: Trusting the process, this is an “anti-swagger” play against the Jazz, who had their 6-game winning streak snapped before the break. We also get a Dallas team that was 6-1 SU and ATS heading into the break led by Luka Doncic. We’re passing on the Pacers -7.5 for those not allergic to chalk (Pacers are a “swagger” play after snapping a 7-game losing streak last time out).

Blue Jackets-Hurricanes First-Period Over 1.5 -145/Jets-Avalanche First Period Over 1.5 -155 parlay: These are the two plays I like best with 1P Overs on Friday, though also considering Devils-Blackhawks 1P Over -140.

Good luck today (and every day!).
