Saturday was another action-packed day of sports betting (and horse betting, too, with the last 3 major preps for the Kentucky Derby) in and out of the Tuley’s Takes home office.
We had a losing day on the ponies, but our friend, Ed Sehon, killed it in his “Mr. Ed’s Keeneland on (about) $100 a Day,” so check out his daily plays at VSiN.com/horses.
As for our sports action, we lost our top NHL First-Period Over plays on the Devils-Stars Over 1.5 as they played to a scoreless tie and the rest of our plays (that we recommended in parlays or round-robins) only went 2-2, so we lost our shirt there.
However, our baseball plays saved the day capped off with our Best bet on the Angels 1st 5 innings (+ 100, even money) vs. the Astros as the Angels led 1-0 through the 5th. Our Best Bet of the day improved to 37-18-1 ATS (67.3 percent) over the past 56 days.
We also hit a smaller play on the Angels as they won 2-0, plus other recommended plays on the Rockies + 140 vs. the Dodgers as they pulled off the 3-2 upset and even a pick for chalk bettors on the Cardinals -1.5 (+ 100, even money) as they beat the Pirates 6-2. Our only baseball loss was on the Tigers even though MLB faves were 11-4 on the day.
Let’s recap the rest of Saturday’s betting action and try to keep the good times rolling on Sunday.
Saturday’s recaps
Masters: Scottie Scheffler holds a 3-shot lead heading into Sunday’s final round. He’s still the odds-on favorite at around -230, with Cameron Smith at + 275 and Sungjae Im at 16-1.
MLB: Faves went 11-4 with upsets by the Rockies (+ 135 in 3-2 win vs. Dodgers), Cubs (+ 135 in 9-0 win vs. Brewers), Marlins (+ 131 in 2-1 win at Giants) and Mariners (+ 123 in 4-3 win at Twins). Unders went 13-1-1 with the push coming in the Cardinals’ 6-2 win over the Pirates with a betting total of 8 runs. After 3 days of games, faves are 22-12 SU, home teams are 21-13 while Unders retake the lead at 21-11-2.
NBA: Faves went a perfect 4-0 SU, but split 2-2 ATS as the 76ers (-14.5 in 133-120 win vs. Pacers) and Warriors (-7.5 in 100-94 win at Spurs) failed to cover in their wins. The Clippers (-11.5 in 117-98 win vs. Kings) and Grizzlies (-8 in 144-114 win vs. Pelicans) did cover. Over/Unders also split 2-2.
NHL: Faves went 8-4 with upsets by the Devils (+ 190 in 3-1 win at Stars), Capitals (+ 130 in 6-3 win at Penguins), Blues Jackets (+ 105 in 5-4 win at Red Wings) and Ducks (-105 in 5-3 win at Flyers). Overs went 6-5-1 with the push in the Rangers' 5-1 win vs. Senators with an Over/Under of 6 goals.
Sunday Takes
Lakers + 7.5 at Nuggets: This is a swagger play (probably the last one of the NBA season as the regular season comes to a close on Sunday night) as the Lakers snapped an 8-game losing streak against the Thunder on Saturday. I know it was with the subs (and against OKC), but they got a confidence-boosting win and I expect them to try and end the season on a winning note, or at least cover this number against a Nuggets team that really has nothing to play for on Sunday (unless the Jazz lose to the Blazers as 17.5-point favorites to give the Nuggets a chance to move up from the No. 6 seed to No. 5).
MLB chalk parlay?: I don’t like any underdogs Sunday as much as I liked the Angels and Rockies yesterday. In fact, I also hit a small unposted four-team parlay on the teams that I picked in Point Spread Weekly that also went off as chalk on Saturday (Cardinals, Blue Jays, Phillies and Padres) and it paid better than 4-1. I’ll probably do the same on Sunday with the Cardinals -220 vs. the Pirates, Blue Jays -220 vs. Rangers, Phillies -210 vs. the A’s and Padres -160 at Diamondbacks; feel free to drop one of those if you don’t like it or add a play of your own (I’m sure many will add the Dodgers -175 to bounce back at the Rockies).
Sabres-Lightning First-Period Over 1.5 -155 (DraftKings): This is the only game Sunday with a game total of 6.5 goals (though some have Predators-Penguins at 6.5, but most are dealing 6). After Saturday’s disappointing 2-3 showing, we’re taking a step back on these plays, at least for a day with most of our top 1P Over teams not in action.
Good luck today (and every day!).
