Tuley's Takes Today: Friday recaps, updated weekend football picks (11/27)

Friday was another action-filled day with a mix of basketball and football, especially of the college variety. We enjoyed it, except for Kansas State (our best bet of the day) not only letting an outright upset slip through its fingers but also the cover as 3-point dogs in a 22-17 loss at Texas.

But we still feel good about our plays the rest of the weekend, so let’s recap Friday’s betting action in the major team sports and then update our best bets for Saturday and Sunday.

Friday’s recaps

CBB: No. 5 Duke upset No. 1 Gonzaga 84-81 late Friday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas after closing as a 9-point dog and + 330 on the money line. The game flew Over the betting total of 155 points. Earlier Friday, Dayton (+ 16, + 800 on ML) upset No. 4 Kansas 74-73 in the ESPN Events Invitational in Orlando.

CFB: No. 4 Cincinnati beat East Carolina 35-13 on Friday, covering as 15-point road fave as the game stayed Under the total of 56.5 points. No. 20 North Carolina State rallied with TD/onside kick/TD to beat North Carolina 34-30, but did NOT cover as 5.5-point fave (went Over 61.5 on winning TD)

NBA: Faves went 9-3 SU, but just 7-5 ATS as the Pistons (+ 11.5 at Clippers) and Thunder (+ 6 vs. Wizards) covered in SU losses. The upsets were by the Pelicans (+ 13.5 at Jazz), Spurs (+ 4.5 vs. Celtics) and Kings (+ 7.5 at Lakers). Over/Unders split 6-6 on Friday, but Unders still lead 165-124-3 (57.1 percent).

NHL: Faves went 9-4 Friday with upsets by the Blackhawks (+ 130 vs. Blues), Rangers (+ 145 at Bruins), Sabres ( + 100 vs. Canadiens) and Stars (+ 110 vs. Avalanche). Unders went 7-6.

Saturday’s Takes

Here’s the rest of my best bets from PSW. Remember, we’re mostly concerned here with how the lines are moving so we can bet our plays ASAP or wait for a better number closer to kickoff.

Virginia Tech + 7 at Virginia: This line has looked pretty solid all week, so not sure we’ll get 7.5.

Miami-Ohio + 1 at Kent State: Grab the point if you still can as most books are at pick-’em. I would even lay a point or two if Miami-Ohio is moved to favoritism, but obviously we always want to get the best number we can.

Tulane + 6 at Memphis: A few books have dipped to 5.5 so grab 6 if you can ASAP.

Western Kentucky + 2 at Marshall: This line is mostly down to 1 so get the best number you can.

Middle Tennessee State + 4 at Florida Atlantic: This is down to 3.5 at most books, so again get what you can.

Titans + 6.5 at Patriots: When we picked this in PSW, we were hoping it would get to 7 and it sure did on Wednesday as everyone is jumping on the New England bandwagon. Can we get + 7.5 by Sunday? The betting has leveled off at 7, so I’m thinking that might be all we get (but I believe it’s more than enough).

Steelers + 4.5 at Bengals: This wasn’t looking like it was going any higher earlier in the week, and I recommended “betting it sooner rather than later.” It’s down to 4 at most books with even a few 3.5s out there, so grab the best number you can

Vikings + 3 at 49ers: Most books have gone to 49ers -3 -120 and the South Point and William Hill have moved to 49ers -3.5, so try to shop around for that hook.

Browns + 4 at Ravens: This was at + 4.5 early Tuesday, but has been gradually been getting bet down, so I would grab + 4 ASAP if you still can, though I’m expecting + 3.5 to be fine in a game that comes down to a FG.

Good luck today (and every day!).
