Friday the 13th was a pretty day personally for yours truly, even though we came pretty close to breaking even on our sports wagers. We got out of the Tuley’s Takes home office as I took my two oldest kids, Jordyn (home from college for the summer) and Peyton (on a senior ditch day) to spend the day with their 85-year-old grandma (my mother-in-law, who I actually get along with) downtown at the Mob Museum (highly recommended!). She’s in town on a golfing trip; she’s more active than the rest of us combined.
Anyway, we had a great time and then went to dinner later with the rest of the family while I sweated my sports bets. I thought I was going to cash my Best Bet of the day as the Grizzlies were right there with the Warriors throughout Game 6 of their series and were actually winning with 6.5 minutes left in the game, but then the Warriors went on a 20-3 run to pull away and cover. That dropped our record to 52-37-1 ATS (58.4 percent) with our top play of the day the past 90 days (that’s coming up on 13 weeks since starting our run with the Bengals + 4.5 on Super Sunday).
We also lost our top NHL play on the Penguins + 105 vs. the Rangers, though we did split the other two games as we won with the Stars + 140 vs. the Flames but lost on the Capitals + 160 vs. the Panthers. We fared better on the diamond with wins on the Padres + 140 at the Braves and Phillies + 190 at the Dodgers. We also mentioned 3 faves that went 2-1 for those that decided to play those anyway.
Let’s recap the rest of Friday’s betting results and try to get back to our winning ways with our Best Bets.
Warriors (-7.5 at home) pulled away to win and cover 110-96 vs. Grizzlies late Friday to clinch their series 4-2 (the game stayed Under the betting total of 218.5 points). Earlier, the Celtics (+ 1.5 on road) upset Bucks 108-95 to force Game 7 (stayed Under 212.5). Faves/dogs and road/dogs both split 1-1 SU and ATS while Unders swept 2-0.
Faves lead 15-9 SU this round, but only .500 at 12-12 ATS, while now 45-22 SU and 38-29 ATS (56.7 percent) overall. Home teams are 18-6 SU and 17-7 ATS this round, 42-25 SU but just 35-32 ATS. The zig-zag went 2-0 ATS on Friday (wins by Celtics and Warriors), 14-6 ATS in this round, 30-25 ATS overall. Unders are 15-9 in round, 42-25 (62.7 percent) overall.
Faves went 2-1 on Friday as Panthers (-160) beat Capitals 4-3 to clinch their 1st-round series 4-2 and Rangers (-125) beat Penguins 5-3 to force Game 7. The Stars (+ 135) were lone winning dog in 4-2 win vs. the Flames to force Game 7. Road teams went 2-1 while Overs swept 3-0.
Faves (on a 9-1 run the last 3 nights) improved to 29-17 SU in the playoffs (also 23-23 on -1.5 puck line). Home teams still lead 28-18. The zig-zag went 1-2 Friday, but still 22-16 SU overall. Overs improved to 30-15-1 (66.7 percent), 22-7-1 (75.9 percent) in the last 8 days after 8-8 start.
Faves went 8-6 with the Reds-Pirates game closing pick-'em. The biggest upsets were by the Mariners (+ 205 in 2-1 win at Mets), Phillies (+ 193 in 12-10, 10-inning win at Dodgers late Friday) and Padres (+ 132 in 11-6 win at Braves). Roads teams went 11-4. Overs went 8-6-1 with a push in the Red Sox’s 7-1 win at the Rangers with a betting total of 8 runs.
Faves dipped to 290-185 SU (61.1 percent) on the season with 11 games closing pick-'em (faves usually win closer to 59 percent SU, so faves still ahead of that pace). Home teams dipped to just 247-239 overall on the season. Unders still lead 249-214-23 (53.8 percent), though still way down from being 60 percent just 18 days ago.
No games on Saturday…boooo!
Giants + 100 (even money) at Cardinals:
I’ll ride the Giants, who are on a 6-game winning streak, as they’re short road dogs here in St. Louis. The Padres are another live dog at $112 at the Braves, And, hey, we’ve cashed 2 straight nights on the Phillies at the Dodgers, so why not jump on them again at + 155 or higher on Saturday night.
I don’t like any of the dogs in Saturday’s three Game 7s, so I’ll probably just do a chalk parlay on the Hurricanes -130 vs. the Bruins, Maple Leafs -125 vs. the Lightning and the Oilers -210 vs. the Kings as it pays around + 370.
Generals + 3.5 vs. Breakers:
This is the only USFL game on Saturday and I hope readers grabbed the hook with the + 3.5 in this game that I gave out in Point Spread Weekly as it’s down to + 3 at most books.
Good luck today (and every day!).
