Friday was a very light sports betting day with the NBA starting its All-Star Break and no Top 25 men’s college basketball teams in action. Since I often share the details of my personal life in these daily columns, I spent the early part of the day outside the Tuley’s Takes home office having a minor medical procedure and the rest of the day on some heavy duty pain-killers.
The day wasn’t a total loss as we easily won our best bet of the day with the Panthers-Wild First-Period Over 1.5 -160. The Wild scored the first goal just over 7 minutes into the game and then the Panthers (who improved to 15-4 with the 1P Over in their last 19 games and 33-16 to take over the lead for best record on the season) scored twice at the 9:58 and 7:31 marks to take a 2-1 lead and put it Over for us. As I wrote yesterday, some books were dealing Over 2 at plus-money (around + 105), so those covered as well. There weren’t any other 1P Overs on the card that I liked (and they went 1-2), so I just bet it straight.
Let’s recap the overall betting results for Friday and look for another best bet on Saturday.
Friday’s recaps
NHL: Favorites went 3-1 on Friday with a lone upset by the Kings (+ 146 in 4-3 OT win at Golden Knights in last game of the night). Winning faves were the Hurricanes (-160 in 5-3 win vs. Predators), Panthers (-128 in 6-2 win at Wild) and Stars (-160 in 1-0 shootout win at Blackhawks). Overs went 3-1.
CBB: No Top 25 teams were in action on Friday night as most (20 of them) are playing on Saturday. The biggest upset on the betting board was Wright State beating Oakland 78-74 as a 4.5-point road underdog and %plus sign% 170 on the money line.
Saturday’s Take
Blues-Maple Leafs First-Period Over 1.5 -155: The Blues have gone Over 1.5 in the opening frame in 11 straight games and are 26-11 on the season. The Maple Leafs haven’t been too shabby at 28-19 as they combine to hit 57.4 percent overall, according to stats compiled by @PSUOtto on Twitter. The -155 was available overnight at DraftKings while it was -145 at Resorts World in Las Vegas with the William Hill/Caesars books offering Over 2 + 125, so again shop around and get the line you want. We also like the Oilers-Jets 1P Over -1.5 as those teams are a combined 58.3 percent with the Oilers at 31-17 and Jets at 25-23, so we’ll also be using those in a parlay that pays around %plus sign% 170 if you bet both at -155.
Good luck today (and every day!).
