Tuesday NHL Line Moves To Know About

January 26, 2021 12:54 AM

Happy Tuesday! We have a loaded betting menu today filled with 20-plus college basketball games, 2 NBA games and a whopping 13 NHL games. For an updated breakdown of Tuesday's betting action, be sure to tune in to the VSiN Market Insights Podcast with Josh Appelbaum. It will be posted at noon ET. I'll also be co-hosting Betting Across America with Mike Pritchard from 3-5 p.m. ET.

In the meantime, with NHL taking center stage tonight, let's discuss several line moves and betting system matches across the ice.

7 p.m. ET: Philadelphia Flyers (3-2-1) at New Jersey Devils (3-1-1)

After a red-hot start to the season, the Flyers have lost two straight. Meanwhile, the Devils have turned it on and won three of their last four. So why did Philadelphia open as a hefty -150 favorite, with some shops moving further to -160? If it looks fishy, there is often a reason behind it. The Flyers own a rest advantage, having last played Saturday while the Devils played Sunday. Also, favorites off a loss are 21-5 (81%) this season, which matches on Philadelphia here.

7 p.m. ET: Pittsburgh Penguins (4-2) at Boston Bruins (3-1-1)

Both of these East Division powerhouses are riding win streaks, as the Penguins have won four straight and the Bruins two straight. This line opened with Boston listed as a -130 home favorite and we've seen the line inch up to -135. Home favorites are 33-12, 75% this season. The Bruins also have a rest advantage, having last played on Saturday while the Pens played Sunday. The Pens are 0-2 on the road this season. The Bruins are 2-0 at home.

8 p.m. ET: Chicago Blackhawks (2-3-1) at Nashville Predators (2-3-0)

Both of these teams have losing records are are hoping to get back to .500. Chicago has won two straight while Nashville has lost three in a row after a 2-0 start. This line opened with the Predators listed as a big -160 home favorite. Respected money has pushed this line up to -170. The Blackhawks got hit with the COVID protocol bug and will be missing key contributors Alex DeBrincat and Adam Boqvist. The Predators have value as a home favorite (33-12, 75% this season) and a favorite off a loss (21-5, 81%).

9 p.m. ET: San Jose Sharks (3-3) at Colorado Avalanche (3-3)

These opponents have identical records but are trending in different directions, as the Sharks have won two of their last three while the Avs have lost two of their last three. This line opened with Colorado listed as a -210 favorite and the line has already climbed to -220. The Avs are in a valuable buy-low spot as a home favorite (33-12, 75% this season) and a favorite off a loss (21-5, 81%). Also, big favorites of -200 or more are 8-2 (80%) this season.

9 p.m. ET: Anaheim Ducks (2-2-2) at Arizona Coyotes (2-3-1)

Both of these teams are at the bottom of the West standings. The Ducks are coming off a 3-1 upset win over the Avs, cashing as + 165 underdogs. The Coyotes have lost three of their last four, but they all came against the powerhouse Knights. This line opened with Arizona listed as a -130 favorite and the line has been adjusted slightly up to -135. The Coyotes have value as a home favorite (33-12, 75% this season) and a favorite off a loss (21-5, 81%). The Coyotes are 2-1-1 at home. The Ducks are 0-1-1 on the road.
