In the meantime, let's discuss a trio of MLB games receiving sharp action tonight...
2:20 p.m. ET: Pittsburgh Pirates (40-57) at Chicago Cubs (39-57)
The Cubs took Monday night's NL Central series opener 3-2, cashing as -145 home favorites. Chicago have now won five straight games. In this afternoon's rematch, Pittsburgh hands the ball to righty Bryse Wilson (1-5, 6.52 ERA) and Chicago counters with fellow righty Keegan Thompson (7-4, 3.43 ERA). This line opened with the Cubs listed as a -155 home favorite and the Pirates a 140 road dog. Pros are riding the hot hand and have steamed Chicago up from -155 to -180. Chicago holds a distinct advantage at the plate, hitting .245 compared to .221 for Pittsburgh. The Pirates are 30-50 as a dog, 24-36 against righties and just 19-32 on the road. Chicago is -67 in run differential. Pittsburgh is -142.
7:05 p.m. ET: Tampa Bay Rays (52-44) at Baltimore Orioles (48-48)
The Orioles stole last night's series opener 5-1, cashing as +100 home dogs. In tonight's AL East division rematch, Tampa Bay turns to ace lefty Shane McClanahan (10-3, 1.71 ERA) and Baltimore taps right Spenser Watkins (3-1, 3.93 ERA). This line opened with the Rays listed as a -175 road favorite and the Orioles a +160 home dog. Sharps aren't scared off by the expensive chalk and have steamed Tampa Bay up from -175 to -195. Road favorites are 320-206 (61%) this season. Favorites off a loss who made the playoffs last season are 187-97 (66%). The Rays also have value as a favorite in a low total game (8). We could be looking at a lower scoring game, as the under 8 is juiced to -115, signaling a possible drop to 7.5. McClanahan has a 1.40 ERA in three July starts.
10:10 p.m. ET: Texas Rangers (43-52) at Seattle Mariners (52-45)
The Mariners took care of business in Monday night's series opener, winning 4-3 as -150 home favorites. In tonight's AL West rematch, Texas starts righty Dane Dunning (1-6, 4.42 ERA) and Seattle trots out fellow righty George Kirby (2-3, 3.78 ERA). This line opened with the Mariners listed as a -145 home favorite and the Rangers a +130 road dog. Pros have laid the chalk with Seattle, steaming the Mariners up from -145 to -155. Seattle is 26-12 as a favorite, 25-23 at home and 43-31 against righties. Texas is 26-28 as a dog, 22-25 on the road and 26-37 against righties. The Mariners lead the season series 9-2. Dunning has an 8.22 ERA in two July starts. Texas is just 1-12 in Dunning's last 13 starts overall. On the flip side, Kirby has a 2.38 ERA in two July starts and Seattle is 6-2 in Kirby's last eight starts.
