I'll also be joining The Lombardi Line with Patrick Meagher and Michael Lombardi at 1:45 p.m. ET to offer a market update.
In the meantime, let's discuss some notable line moves and betting system matches for today's loaded NHL slate...
7 p.m. ET: Tampa Bay Lightning (3-1) at Carolina Hurricanes (2-1)
Both of these teams are coming off extended breaks due to COVID protocols. The Lightning haven't played since January 23rd while the Hurricanes have been off since January 18th. This line opened with Tampa Bay listed as a -140 road favorite and we've seen the line inch closer to -150. Tampa Bay has value as a favorite off a loss (25-8, 76% this season). Even better, favorites off a loss against teams off a win have gone 20-5 (80%). Favorites with significant rest (at least three days or more) are 11-5 (69%). All of these systems match with the Lightning.
7 p.m. ET: New York Islanders (3-3) at Washington Capitals (4-0-3)
These East Division foes met on Tuesday night and the Caps won 3-2. Washington leads the division and has yet to lose in regulation this season, despite still missing Alex Ovechkin and several other contibutors due to COVID protocols. Now they might be down star Nicklas Backstrom and Lars Eller, who left last game in the 3rd period due to injury. This line opened with the Islanders listed as -125 road favorites and some shops have climbed to -135. The Islanders have bounce-back value as a favorite off a loss (25-8, 76% this season) and a favorite off a loss against an opponent off a win (20-5, 80%). We might also be looking at a low scoring game. The total is 5.5 and the under is juiced up to -130.
8 p.m. ET: Los Angeles Kings (3-2-2) at Minnesota Wild (4-3)
These teams met on Tuesday night and the Kings picked up a 2-1 upset victory, cashing as + 150 road dogs. In tonight's game two, the Wild opened as hefty -150 home favorites and have quickly been bet up to -160, signaling respected money on their side. The Wild match three of the most profitable NHL betting systems this season: home favorites (40-16, 71%), favorites off a loss (25-8, 76%) and favorites off a loss against an opponent off a win (20-5, 80%). We could be in for another los scoring matchup as well. The total is 5.5 and the under is juiced up to -125.
9 p.m. ET: San Jose Sharks (3-4) at Colorado Avalanche (4-3)
This is the second game of a two-game series. In the opener, the Avs dominated the Sharks 7-3, cashing as -210 home favorites. Tonight, the Avs opened as hefty -240 favorites and have quickly reached -250 at some shops. Home favorites like the Avs are 40-16 (71%) this season. Also, big favorites of -200 or more are 10-2 (83%). The Avs are + 7 in goal differential while the Sharks are -6. If the moneyline price is too steep, you could instead target the Avs on the puck line at -1.5 (+ 100).
9 p.m. ET: St. Louis Blues (4-2-1) at Vegas Golden Knights (5-1-1)
These two powerhouses met a couple nights ago and the Blues hung on for a 5-4 upset win, cashing as + 130 road underdogs. This time around, the Knights opened as -150 home favorites. The line hasn't budged, but the Knights are in a good bounce-back spot. Home favorites are 40-16 (71%) this season and favorites off a loss are 25-8 (76%). If you take it a step further, favorites off a loss against opponents off a win are 20-5 (80%). Vegas is + 6 in goal differential this season whle St. Louis is -5. These teams combined for 9 goals last game and you would expect another shootout. However, the total of 6 is juiced up to the under (-120).
