Tennis best bets for Wimbledon - Saturday, July 8th

Wimbledon is the third major of the tennis season and it's arguably the most prestigious of the four. The All England Club in London, England is one of the most beautiful venues that the sport has to offer, and the exclusive nature of grass-court tennis gives it a different feel than the rest. I'm hoping to continue dishing out winners over the next two weeks, so make sure you keep reading for my tennis best bets for Saturday, July 8th.

Marton Fucsovics vs. Daniil Medvedev

I had Adrian Mannarino to win the same exact bet against Medvedev last round, but the lefty was unable to get the job done. Mannarino really should have been able to do it, as he had Medvedev uncomfortable and was constructing points the way he wanted. He just wasn’t doing a good job of finishing points, and he put far too many balls into the middle of the net. I don’t think Medvedev will be as lucky against Fucsovics, who has looked remarkable through two matches at Wimbledon.

Fucsovics took out a red-hot Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets in the opening round and followed it up with a straightforward four-set win over Marcos Giron. Fucsovics is hitting his spots with his serve and looking very powerful from the baseline, while also doing a good job of moving his feet. I just find it hard to believe that Medvedev can beat him in straights on a surface he isn’t exactly great on. This match could have a few tiebreakers, so Fucsovics should be able to grab at least a set.

Bet: Fucsovics +2.5 Sets (-155 - 2 units)

Mirra Andreeva vs. Anastasia Potapova

Last year, Potapova earned a 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-3 win over Andreeva in hard-court match in Tunisia. Since then, both players have gotten a lot better. Andreeva has probably made the bigger leap between the two, with the 16-year-old now becoming a consistent presence at the WTA level. However, Potapova is up to 23rd in the WTA rankings and the 22-year-old looks like she could one day be a top-10 player. But I generally believe that there isn’t much that separates these two players, and we saw that in their first meeting. With that said, I’m expecting another very competitive match.

I’d probably give a slight lean to playing Andreeva on the moneyline, as I have just loved what I have seen from her at this event. She has nerves of steel and a big, powerful game, which should make her a great grass-court player. But Potapova has also been impressive at Wimbledon, as she has won her two matches in straight sets. With both of them in form, I just don’t see either player running away with this one in straight sets. That’s why I think the Over on the game total is a pretty safe bet.
