LAS VEGAS – The head-to-head bracket segment in the Golden Nugget’s $190,000 Friday Football Showdown has started for this weekend.
For full details on how the field was set, check out my Golden Nugget recap story at VSiN.com, but the skinny is that the No. 9 through 16 seeds are competing in the first round of the playoffs and the four winners will advance to play the No. 5 though 8 seeds next week while the No. 1 through 4 seeds await those four survivors with byes into the quarterfinal round on Friday, Dec. 15.

Contestants make 7 plays against the GN contest lines and the best record advances. The seventh play listed is used as a tiebreaker. If that’s the same result, the tiebreaker works backward toward the first place until a winner is determined. In the unlikely event there’s still a tie (though it would automatically happen if both go 7-0 or 0-7), the next tiebreaker the number of point that the No. 7 covers or doesn’t cover, and again works in reverse order until a winner determined.
