Patriots, Packers, Seahawks only odds-on division favorites

Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have set the bar high. At this point, if the New England Patriots do not at least reach the Super Bowl, their season is a big disappointment.

Crushing the competition in the AFC East is an afterthought, with the Patriots doing that as an annual tradition. New England has won its division by two games or more in each of the past seven years.

When NFL regular-season win totals opened at the South Point on April 30, the Patriots topped the board at 11. ( Early betting action has pushed the number to 12½.

The Patriots finished 14-2 last year, winning their division by four games, and that was with Brady suspended for the season’s first four games.

CG Technology sports books recently posted odds to win on each of the eight divisions. New England opened as the biggest division favorite at minus-350. It can be argued that price is a bargain and the line should be around minus-700.

New England, Green Bay and Seattle are the only odds-on division favorites. The Patriots probably face the weakest opposition in Miami, Buffalo and the New York Jets. The Packers must contend with Detroit and Minnesota. The Seahawks will get a fight from Arizona this season. (

The Westgate sports book will post NFL season wins, games of the year and division odds on Sunday.

Bettors will get no more bargains on the Patriots, but that division price (minus-350) still is available.
