- Carolina – 73.8 percent (-282)
- Winnipeg– 78.5 (-366)
Best Bets
- New York Rangers -1.5 (-120)
The uncertainty surrounding which goaltenders will start does give me pause, but the if it’s Igor Shesterkin and Cayden Primeau, this is an opportunity I’d rather not pass up. The Rangers are without star Chris Kreider, but the team still has much more firepower than their opponents.
Montreal has scored fewer goals than any other team (1.97 per 60) over the last month, and they’ve also allowed more (4.36 per 60) than any other team, too. The Canadiens have failed to cover the puck line in seven out of their last 10 games. Montreal also ranks 31st in penalty kill percentage over the last month and they have taken more penalties than all but one team during that stretch.
New York has struggled with the man advantage, but their peripherals are strong, and this is great spot for the team to get things heading in the right direction. Assuming Shesterkin is in goal, the Rangers’ chances of covering the puck line are much better than the odds (-120) suggest.

Projected Starting Goaltenders
No goaltenders are confirmed unless otherwise stated. Projections are based on factors like rest, venue, opponent and upcoming games. Projected starters underlined.
- Montreal – It’s unclear if Jake Allen will be available for Sunday’s game. Cayden Primeau backed up Samuel Montembeault on Saturday.
- New York – The Rangers play the Blue Jackets in Columbus on Monday and the fact that this is a home game has me leaning a little bit more toward Igor Shesterkin. However, I think there’s a decent chance that Jaroslav Halak could get this start. Halak has not started since Jan. 5th when the Rangers defeated the Canadiens 4-1.
- Vancouver – Thatcher Demko continues to work his way back from the injury that has kept him out since Dec. 3rd, but he is not expected to play on this road trip and that leaves Collin Delia as the expected starter.
- Carolina – Frederik Andersen was backed up by Pyotr Kochetkov on Saturday, so he’s expected to start until there’s reason to think otherwise. However, the Hurricanes are currently carrying three goaltenders.
- Arizona – Karel Vejmelka will start in goal for the Coyotes.
- Winnipeg – The Jets have been on the road for three games, and they’ll set out for a five-game road trip following Sunday’s game against the Coyotes. It’s hard to say who will start this game. David Rittich has been good, but the people pay to see Connor Hellebuyck.
Injury Updates
Check out the VSiN NHL Injury Report.
- Carolina – Max Pacioretty is expected to miss Sunday’s game.
- New York – Chris Kreider is considered doubtful to play on Sunday, according to some reports, but he did skate prior to Saturday’s practice, which is a good sign that he won’t be out long term. Don’t expect Kreider to play on Sunday, though. Artemi Panarin missed practice, as he and some of his teammates (Vitali Kravtsov and Ryan Lindgren) were dealing with a stomach flu, but the expectation is that they will suit up. Julien Gauthier will miss the game.
