Projected Starting Goaltenders
No goaltenders are confirmed unless otherwise stated. Projections are based on factors like rest, venue, opponent and upcoming games. Projected starters underlined.
- Winnipeg Jets – Connor Hellebuyck bounced back with a win over the Sabres in Buffalo on Thursday so David Rittich will almost certainly start on Friday in Pittsburgh.
- Pittsburgh Penguins – Casey DeSmith is the starting goaltender until Tristan Jarry returns.
- New Jersey Devils – MacKenzie Blackwood hasn’t started since Jan. 1st and the Devils play again on Friday.
- Anaheim Ducks – John Gibson has allowed 13 goals combined in his last two starts and Anthony Stolarz stopped all 16 shots he faced in relief of Gibson.
- San Jose Sharks – James Reimer, since Kaapo Kahkonen started on Tuesday.
- Los Angeles Kings – Jonathan Quick hasn’t started since Dec. 31st.
- Edmonton Oilers – Jack Campbell is the starter until Stuart Skinner returns from injury.
- San Jose Sharks – James Reimer is expected to start.
Injury Updates
Check out the VSiN NHL Injury Report.
- Pittsburgh Penguins – Kris Letang remains in Montreal following the death of his father and there is no timetable on his return. Letang is also still dealing with a lower-body injury and might not be able to play even when he does rejoin the team. Jeff Petry is regarded as doubtful. He has not had a full practice with the team since being injured. Goaltender Tristan Jarry was on the ice prior to Thursday’s practice but, according to reports, it looked like he was simply feeling things out. The Penguins play again on Saturday and Jarry could be an option for that game.
- New Jersey Devils – John Marino could return to the lineup on Friday.
Players To Watch
- Tomas Tatar (New Jersey Devils) – Jack Hughes has been on fire, and his linemate, Tomas Tatar, has been one of the biggest beneficiaries. Tatar has scored points in seven of his last nine (nine points) and he’s been scoring points at the same rate as Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt and Dougie Hamilton over the last month.
- Zach Hyman (Edmonton Oilers) – No player has generated more expected goals (per 60) than Zach Hyman has in the last month. Good things happen when you play on a line with Leon Draisaitl and are part of the best power play in the NHL.
