Today’s Best NHL Bet
As I mentioned in Tuesday’s article, the Golden Knights have been propped up by goaltending for a while now, and although Logan Thompson is due back in the crease after missing more than a month with an injury, Vegas has dropped off defensively. Vegas has gone 13-5 straight up while using four different goalies, but only five teams have given up more shots than the Golden Knights over the last five weeks and the Flames ability to generate a high number of shots is well documented.
The Golden Knights do have a good offense, so they aren’t total frauds, but their goaltenders have been saving them about one goal above expected per 60 minutes since Feb. 1st and it’s not a recipe for sustainability. Vegas lost by a score of 7-2 when they played the Flames last week and both teams have been playing in a lot of high scoring games as of late, especially the former, as eight of their last 10 games have featured at least seven goals.
Bet: Vegas Golden Knights at Calgary Flames Over 6.5 Goals (EVEN)

News and Notes
Kaprizov out, Spurgeon questionable for now
Minnesota superstar Kirill Kaprizov hasn’t played since March 8th and their best defenseman, Jared Spurgeon, is day-to-day after missing his first game of the season on Tuesday due to an illness. His status is up in the air. If they’re lucky, Kaprizov will be back before their schedule gets tough.
Bruins looking for ninth win in a row versus Canadiens
The most storied rivalry in NHL history has been one-sided for a while now. The Bruins have dominated the Canadiens for the better part of the last decade. Boston has gone 18-6 straight up against Montreal since December of 2015 and they’ve won’t the last eight games in a row in the season series.
Note: Josh Anderson will not travel to Boston for the game.
Ferguson to start another game for Senators
Dylan Ferguson will start for the Senators on Thursday according to TSN radio in Ottawa and you’re probably wondering, who is Dylan Ferguson? He’s the latest guy you’ve never heard of to come in and prove that goaltenders are voodoo, stopping 48 of 49 shots in his first career start.
The 24-year-old, who was drafted in the seventh round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, was one save short of the record, which was set by sixth round draft pick Laurent Brossoit, who has never been able to lock down a fulltime job in the NHL. It might not be a one-off, Ferguson is a professional hockey player after all, but there’s a reason he hasn’t played in the NHL in five years.
Carlson nearing return, Kuemper day-to-day
The Capitals defenseman has been out since Dec. 23rd with a serious injury but is practicing fully now and there is a chance that he will return to Washington’s lineup sometime this week. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper is day-to-day but could be in the lineup on Thursday.
Forsberg remains out, Josi day-to-day
Filip Forsberg remains out with what is believed to be a concussion. He’s been skating, but it doesn’t look like he’s close to returning. He wasn’t on the Predators recent road trip. Josi is listed day-to-day with an upper body injury.
