New Jersey Devils (Moneyline) -130
With John Tavares and newly acquired Ryan O’Reilly out of the lineup, the Maple Leafs are a lot lighter in the talent department, specifically at centre, coming into Tuesday’s game. The game line (-130/+110) would be appropriate for this matchup if the Maple Leafs were at full strength, but that’s not the case.
New Jersey, who has finally added star forward Timo Meier to the lineup, has been better on offense and defense (minus goaltending) than Toronto over the last two months and the Maple Leafs have been having trouble scoring as of late. Toronto has scored three goals or fewer in 14 of their last 22 games.
The Devils were in a bit of a scoring slump, too, but it didn’t last long, and the team’s offense has been among the league’s best over the last month. In fact, only two teams (Edmonton and Boston) have scored more goals during that time. Toronto isn’t going to go down easy, but by my estimation, New Jersey should be priced just north of -140.

Vegas Golden Knights (Moneyline) +125
The East has dominated interconference play, but not the Panthers. In fact, only the Ottawa Senators have a worst record against Western Conference teams, but due to Florida’s stature, they have the lowest return on investment. Florida is 11-18 versus the Western Conference overall this season, and 5-8 on home ice.
Vegas is better on the road than they are on home ice, and they’ve got a respectable road record (8-4) versus the Eastern Conference. The Golden Knights have won nine of 12 games since the All-Star break. Florida, meanwhile, has lost every other game in their last 10 and should be priced around -115, according to my model.
Record: 63-75, -18.92, -12.2 percent
