Market Report for Tuesday, Dec. 21st

Due to postponements around the league, there are only two games on Tuesday. The NHL has also announced that they will break until December 27th due to concerns over the virus. Happy Holidays!

Let’s look at things from a betting perspective:

Washington Capitals (-135) at Philadelphia Flyers (+ 115)

With the assumption that Tom Wilson will be back in the Washington lineup, my model has generated a fair price of around -130 in favor of the road team. Washington would be a bigger favorite, but Nicklas Backstrom, T.J. Oshie and Evgeny Kuznetsov are on the COVID list. Philadelphia forward Kevin Hayes was on the ice for practice on Monday morning, but he was removed from practice and placed in COVID protocol. Given what we’ve seen over the last week or so, there’s a chance that more players have been impacted by this, and therefore, the game might be rescheduled. Either way, it doesn’t look like I’ll be taking a position on either side.

Notes: Ilya Samsonov and Carter Hart are expected to be the starting goaltenders. Tom Wilson has been a full participant at practice and is eligible to be activated from the injured list ahead of Tuesday’s game.

Update: This game has been postponed.

Tampa Bay Lightning (+ 105) at Vegas Golden Knights (-125)

Two of the hottest teams in the league will go head-to-head on Tuesday as the Lightning are in Vegas to take on the Golden Knights. The former has only lost one game in their last eight, while the latter has eight wins in their last nine. According to my model, the Vegas Golden Knights should be priced around -135, but that’s if Mark Stone plays, and there’s no guarantee that he will. Stone missed Sunday’s game in Long Island due to an upper-body injury. If Stone doesn’t play, the game should be lined closer to -120. There’s almost no chance that I will take the dog unless there’s a huge shift in the odds due to another player being out due to injury or illness. I might lay the favorite at -125 or better if Stone is in the lineup, but we likely won’t know whether Stone will play or not until closer to the game.

Notes: Andrei Vasilevskiy and Robin Lehner are expected to be the starting goaltenders. Mark Stone was a late scratch ahead of Sunday’s game and is questionable to play on Tuesday.

Update: Alex Pietrangelo and Evgenii Dadonov have been placed in COVID protocol. According to my model, the Golden Knights should be priced somewhere around -105.
