New head coach Sean Payton takes over with low expectations

Longtime Saints head coach Sean Payton will lead a Denver Broncos bunch into the 2023 season off of one of the most disappointing years in franchise history. The trade of Russell Wilson was supposed to inject life into a team that hasn’t really had a good QB since Peyton Manning, but that was not the case. Former head coach Nathaniel Hackett seemed overwhelmed and Wilson regressed as Denver limped to a last-place finish in the league’s top division. With a strong AFC West once again, the Broncos have an uphill climb to get back to the playoffs.

Denver Broncos schedule this year

Denver faces six challenging games within the division against the AFC West, to go along with matchups against the entirety of the NFC North and AFC East. The AFC East looks a lot stronger this season with Aaron Rodgers and the much improved Dolphins from a year ago, so this is a tough first year on paper for Payton and the Broncos. However, the last-place schedule does feature the Texans and Commanders.

Denver also draws three straight road games from Week 13-15, but also gets the first two games of the season at home, where they often have a big advantage early in the season.
