NFL Week 15 recap

By Jeff Fogle  (

NFL Week 15 recap:

Tampa Bay (-6) won at Detroit 38-17, winning yardage 495-295, yards-per-play 6.8 to 4.7, third down conversions 50-40%, Drive Points 21-14, and turnovers 3-1. Bucs now 7-7, Lions 3-10-1.

Philadelphia (-6) won at Washington 37-27, covering on a defensive TD as time ran out. Eagles won yardage 415-362, third downs 69-40%, Drive Points 31-21, and rushing yards 157-101. Eagles 7-7, tied with Dallas atop NFC East. Washington 3-11.

Green Bay (-4.5) beat Chicago 21-13, winning Drive Points 14-10 and turnovers 3-0. Bears racked up better yardage stats amidst the turnover loss. Packers 11-3, but still not dominating. Bears fall to 7-7.

New England (-10.5) won at Cincinnati 34-13, winning turnovers 5-0, and third downs 43-31%. Some big TO games today. Cincy won yardage 315-291 and yards-per-play 5.0 to 4.6. Patriots now 11-3, Bengals 1-13.

Houston (plus 3) won at Tennessee 24-21, winning third downs 50-40% but nothing else. Helped by a 12-yard TD drive after a long turnover return. First underdog cover of the day. Texans 9-5, Titans 8-6.

Seattle (-6) won at Carolina 30-24, winning yards-per-play 6.8 to 5.8 and turnovers 3-1. Panthers won some volume stats playing from behind. Seattle 11-3, and back into NFC West lead with SF's loss. Carolina now 5-9.

Kansas City (-9) beat Denver 23-3, winning yardage 419-251, yards-per-play 6.8 to 4.4, third downs 55-36%, Drive Points 20-3, and rushing yardage 92-52. Lock fell back to earth. KC now 10-4, Denver 5-9.

NYG (-3.5) beat Miami 36-20, winning yardage 412-384, yards-per-play 6.5 to 5.6, third downs 45-23%, and Drive Points 21-14. Both are now 3-11, but Miami has losses to both NYG and Washington in race for #2 draft pick.

Buffalo (plus 1) won at Pittsburgh 17-10, just the second dog to cover so far. Bills won yardage 261-229, yards-per-play 4.1 to 4.0, third downs 43-38%, rushing yardage 130-51, and TO's 5-2 (!). Defensive battle. Buffalo now 10-4, Pittsburgh 8-6.

Jacksonville (plus 6) rallied to upset Oakland 20-16, winning Drive Points 17-13 red zone TD's 50% (2/4) to 0% (0/3). Raiders blew a 16-3 halftime lead, and won most other stats. Jaguars up to 5-9, Raiders fall to 6-8.

Arizona (plus 3) beat Cleveland 38-24, winning yardage 445-393, yards-per-play 7.4 to 5.9, rushing yards 226-152, and Drive Points 35-21. Cards 4-9-1, Browns 6-8.

Atlanta (plus 10) stunned San Francisco 29-22 (another last-play defensive TD lifted a 23-22 edge), winning third downs 54-33%, turnovers 2-1, and Drive Points 20-10. Niners won yardage stats. Atlanta now 5-9, SF falls to 11-3 and will probably have to win W17 at SEA to earn a bye.

Dallas (pk) beat the LA Rams 44-21, winning yardage 475-289, yards-per-play 7.0 to 4.2, rushing yards 263-22, and third downs 54-33%. Dallas played best game in ages to reach 7-7. Rams fall to 8-6, needing a miracle to win a Wildcard.

Minnesota (-1.5) won at the LA Chargers 39-10, winning rushing yards 137-62, Drive Points 13-10, and turnovers 7-1 (!). Vikings now 10-4, with a magic number of 1 to get the second NFC wildcard. Chargers fall to 5-9.
