NFL Week 1 Schedule and Odds
Thursday, Sept. 7
Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs (-6.5 -120)
Week 1 (and obviously the season) kicks off with the NFL tradition of the defending Super Bowl champion hosting the Thursday Night Football opener. DraftKings opened the Chiefs as 7-point home favorites as well as other books, but early money came in on the up-and-coming Lions and DK moved to Chiefs -6.5 -120 (Lions offered at +6.5 +100, or even money).
Sunday, Sept. 10
Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons (-2.5 -115)
The top game on Sunday’s betting board is the start of half of the Week 1 games (8 of 16) featuring divisional rivalries. We’ll see if the Panthers start overall No. 1 draft pick Bryce Young at QB, but the Falcons opened as short home favorites. As of late Thursday night, DraftKings was up to Falcons -2.5 -115 with some other sportsbooks already at Falcons -3
Houston Texans at Baltimore Ravens (-8)
The Texans ended up with two of the top three picks in the NFL Draft (C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr.), but the Ravens still opened as 8-point home favorites and were bet up to -9 in early wagering.
Cincinnati Bengals (-2.5) at Cleveland Browns
The Browns should have more continuity with Deshaun Watson starting the season as opposed to last year with his suspension, but the Bengals still opened as short road favorites.
Jacksonville Jaguars (-3.5) at Indianapolis Colts
The Jaguars have not one but two international games this season, so they might as well get in the mood by opening on the road, where the defending AFC South champs are favored by more than a field goal at Indianapolis.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Minnesota Vikings (-7 -105)
With Tom Brady having retired (supposedly) for real, the Vikings are favored by a full touchdown in the season-opener, though early money came in on the Buccaneers to move their line to +7 -115 with DraftKings offering the Vikings -7 -105.
Tennessee Titans at New Orleans Saints (-3.5)
In one of the rare interconference games in Week 1, the Saints – still trying to figure out who to call their franchise QB after Drew Brees’ retirement after the 2020 season – turn to former Raider Derek Carr and opened as favorites of more than a field goal vs. the Titans.
San Francisco 49ers (-3 -105) at Pittsburgh Steelers
In another interconference game, the 49ers opened -3 at the Steelers. Early money came in on the Steelers at DraftKings as they moved Pittsburgh to +3 -115 with the 49ers -3 -105.
Arizona Cardinals vs. Washington Commanders (-5)
This game will certainly be big among the teams’ fan bases, but will probably have the least interest nationally. Regardless, all NFL attracting betting action and the Commanders opened -4.5 and were bet up to -5.
Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears (-2.5)
With the Aaron Rogers era over in Green Bay, the NFL’s longest-running rivalry has a much-anticipated matchup of young QBs with the Bears’ Justin Fields vs. the Packers’ Jordan Love. The Bears opened as a short 1-point home favorite and was quickly bet up to -2.5.
Las Vegas Raiders at Denver Broncos (-3.5)
Season 2 of the Russell Wilson Experiment in Denver starts with the Broncos as 3.5-point home favorites vs. the Raiders, who are replacing Derek Carr with former 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo. The loser will be in an early hole in chasing the Chiefs and Chargers in the AFC West.
Miami Dolphins vs. Los Angeles Chargers (-2.5 -115)
These two AFC wild-card teams from last season start this season in a game that could have tie-breaking implications if both are in the playoff hunt as expected. DraftKings opened the Chargers as favorites of under a field goal, though it was bet up to -2.5 -115 with the Dolphins offered at +2.5 -105 (though Miami backers will be hoping it goes to +3).
Philadelphia Eagles (-4) at New England Patriots
The defending NFC champion Eagles will put the “Super Bowl loser hangover” to the test when they visit New England. DraftKings opened the Eagles -3.5, but it was quickly bet up to -4. Even though this is an East Coast game, it’s been moved to the 4:25 p.m. ET/1:25 p.m. PT time slot.
Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks (-5)
It’s amazing that the Rams are just over a year removed from their Super Bowl title, yet DraftKings opened them as 5-point road underdogs at Seattle and the Seahawks were actually bet up to -5.5 in early wagering on the night of the schedule release.
Dallas Cowboys (-2.5) at New York Giants
The NFC East takes center stage in Week 1’s Sunday Night Football game with the Cowboys as short 2-point road favorites and “America’s Team” (do we really still call them that with no Super Bowl appearances since the 1995-96 season?) has already been bet up to -2.5.
Monday, Sept. 11
Buffalo Bills (-1.5) at New York Jets
Week 11 concludes with a marquee AFC East matchup on Monday Night Football with the Bills favored by 1.5 at the Jets and their new quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. DraftKings actually opened this at Bills -3 -115, but all the early money came in on the Jets to knock it down to 1.5.
