NFL Picks Today From Doc's Sports Service

The year was 1971. The Dallas Cowboys won the 1971 Super Bowl, beating Miami 24-3 and dealing the Dolphins their final loss before their undefeated 1972 campaign. The MVP was Vikings defensive end Alan Page, the first (and one of only two) defensive players to win the MVP. That was also the year that Doc’s Sports started their expert NFL picks service.  The Boston Patriots changed their name to the New England Patriots that year and four teams – the Eagles (Veterans Stadium), 49ers (Candlestick Park), Cowboys (Texas Stadium) and Patriots (Schaefer Stadium) – all moved into new stadiums…that no longer exist today. That year saw the first Pro Bowl played and the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL draft that year (behind No. 1 Jim Plunkett) was a skinny quarterback named Archie Manning. The average NFL salary was $27,500, the lowest of any major sport. And just 10 players made over $100,000 that year, also the lowest of any major sport.
