College Basketball Picks Today
The year was 1971. The UCLA Bruins, coached by John Wooden and hailing from the Pac-8 Conference, won their fifth consecutive college basketball national championship. The Bruins, who finished the year 29-1, bested a 25-team NCAA Tournament field and cut down the nets in the Astrodome in Houston. That was also the year that Doc’s Sports started offering their college basketball picks service. 1971 marked the first time the tournament was played in a domed stadium and the overall attendance for the tournament was just 207,200 people! Howard Porter of Villanova was named the tournament’s most outstanding player and Austin Carr of Notre Dame finished the season as the Naismith National Player of the Year. At the conclusion of the 1971 tournament, a little-known Army head coach by the name of Bobby Knight left the Black Knights to take over the program at Indiana.
