Mr. Ed's Keeneland on (about) $100 a Day for races on Wednesday 4/27

By Ed Sehon  (VSiN handicapper)

Editor’s note: Just like he did during the 40-day Saratoga meet last summer, Ed Sehon (aka Mr. Ed) will provide VSiN readers with daily picks during the 15-day Keeneland meet that opened last Friday and runs through Friday, April 29. Sehon’s selections are meant to give an overview of how to attack each day’s card through the use of Best Bets on individual horses as well as multi-race wagers (which are meant to give a more comprehensive look at the card, so feel free to pick-and-choose from the selections in those races and mix with your own handicapping). He generally tries to do it on a bankroll of (about) $100 a day. Here’s his plays for Wednesday as he tries to get back on the positive side of the ledger before the end of the meet:

Race No. 2 (1:32 p.m. ET/10:32 a.m. PT)

Mr. Ed likes #5 Federalist Papers (7-5 morning line). “Hard-luck daughter of More Than Ready still seeking second win after three lackluster efforts vs. tougher. Irad Ortiz Jr. retains mount for Chad Brown for back-to-back turf marathons. Based on her strong constitution, she should handle these also-rans. Wager: $20 to Win.”

Race No. 5 (3:08 p.m. ET/12:08 p.m. PT)

My pick is #1 American Heights (4-1 morning line). “West Coast conditioner William Morey brings American Pharoah progeny east for eighth attempt to graduate. Having previously flashed early speed, if 4-year-old breaks quickly under young Geraldo Corrales, she may never look back vs. this group of expensive gals. Wager: $10 to Win and Place, and $5 Daily Double of 1 and 9.”

Race No. 6 (3:40 p.m. ET/12:40 p.m. PT)

Mr. Ed likes #9 Floriform (3-1 morning line). “Having finished a respectable third in Tampa Bay Derby, son of Into Mischief shows a steady string of works for HOF trainer Bill Mott. With previous win over track and a big rider upgrade to Joel Rosario, he’ll be in mix early — and hopefully in front at wire. Wager: $10 to Win and Place, and $2 Exacta Box of 9 with 1,3,7 and 11.”

Race No. 7 (4:12 p.m. ET/1:12 p.m. PT)

Mr. Ed’s BEST BEST OF THE DAY is #3 Down Cold (9-5 morning line). “When was the last time all-time winningest trainer Steve Asmussen (0-13) was shut out at any racing meet, let alone Keeneland? I certainly don’t recall. With Tyler Gaffalione up, gelding should win in a walk. Wager: $20 down cold to Win on 3.”

Race No. 8 (4:44 p.m. ET/1:44 p.m. PT)

I like three – #4 Spare Cash (5-2 morning line), #5 American Pyramid (3-1) and #10 Diva Ready (6-1) – in maiden nightcap at mile on turf. Wager: $5 Exacta Box of 4,5 and 10.

TOTAL WAGERS ON WEDNESDAY: $131

TOTAL WAGERS THROUGH SUNDAY: $1,191

TOTAL MONEY CASHED: $1,055.10

NET LOSS: $135.90
