Editor’s note: Just like he did during the 40-day Saratoga meet last summer, Ed Sehon (aka Mr. Ed) will provide VSiN readers with daily picks during the 15-day Keeneland meet that opened last Friday and runs through Friday, April 29 (no racing on Mondays, Tuesdays or Easter Sunday, April 17).
Sehon’s selections are meant to give an overview of how to attack each day’s card through the use of Best Bets on individual horses as well as multi-race wagers. He generally tries to do it on a bankroll of (about) $100 a day, though will sometimes go higher on bigger days like he did on Blue Grass Stakes Day last Saturday.
Sehon blanked with his picks both Wednesday and Thursday, but again he was risking his lowest amount ($76) on both days and still has a tidy profit so far as we're one-third (5 of 15 days) through the Keeneland meet. He steps it up on Friday with $114 in wagers:
Race No. 5 (3:08 p.m. ET/12:08 p.m. PT)
I like #1 Ocean Road (5-2 morning line). “After earning a late-running 91 Beyer Speed Figure in her U.S. debut at Del Mar in November, trainer Brendan Walsh gave gal a freshening. She returns in mile-and-an-eighth turf test following steady work pattern.
Walsh adds Lasix and attracts Tyler Gaffalione to get up and go from inside post. Wager: $20 to Win.”
Race No. 7 (4:12 p.m. ET/1:12 p.m. PT)
Mr. Ed believes #3 Kaufymaker (6-1 morning line) is sitting on a big effort. “Trainer Wesley Ward scratched filly from allowance race over weekend in favor of this tougher stakes spot. She was last seen in November finishing a close-up third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at 24-1. Jockey Jose Ortiz, who knows her, will have gal flying in stretch. Wager: $5 Win and Place — and $2 Exacta Box 3 with 2,4,6.”
Races Nos. 7-10 (4:12 p.m. ET/1:12 p.m. PT)
Mr. Ed likes the following $.50 Pick 4 (cost $72)
Race 7: 2,3,4,6
Race 8: 7,9,10
Race 9: 4,5,6
Race 10: 2,4,11,12
TOTAL WAGERS: $114 FOR FRIDAY
TOTAL WAGERS THROUGH THURSDAY: $479
TOTAL MONEY CASHED: $566
TOTAL PROFIT: $87
