Wednesday Best Bets, Tuesday Recaps
Tuesday wasn’t your typical Tuesday, which is usually not a busy sports betting day, in the Tuley’s Takes home office as we had a bunch of action.
I’m proud that we won our Best Bet of the day on the Timberwolves +8.5 when the whole world seemed to be on the Lakers (and willing to fade the T-Wolves). I love when we’re contrarian with our underdog plays, and that was certainly the case as no one was giving Minnesota a chance. As it turned out, we were on the right side the whole game and were only in danger of losing when it went to overtime and the Lakers pulled away to win 108-102.
If you look at the
VSiN PRO Best Bet page, you’ll see it says I went 1-2-1 on Tuesday for a net loss of $9.09 based on $100 units, but regular readers know I had a very profitable day, and hopefully they did also (the ironic thing is we were a missed Anthony Davis free throw away from being 0-3-1 based on our original play of the T-Wolves +6.5 even though I stressed that we were waiting for a better number closer to tipoff).
I also lost posted NHL plays on the Capitals +1.5 -110 at the Bruins in a 5-2 loss and our First-Period Over parlay on Sabres-Devils (only 1 goal scored by Devils and none by Sabres despite many chances) and Canucks-Ducks (Canucks led 2-1 for those who bet Over 1.5 -155 or Over 2 +135).
I also pushed my top First 5 Inning dog on the Diamondbacks F5 +130 vs. the Brewers as the two teams played to a scoreless tie through 5 innings, though again regular readers also knew I had recommended plays on the Marlins F5 +135 at the Phillies (led 1-0 on the way to an 8-4 upset) and Padres F5 +125 at the Mets (2-1 on the way to a 4-2 upset).
Let’s get to our daily (full-game) recaps of Tuesday’s betting action and then our plays for Wednesday, though we only have MLB picks (note: I don’t like the NBA dogs on Wednesday as much as the ones on Tuesday, and I’m passing on the only potential NHL 1P Over play on the Sharks-Flames as there’s not another play to pair it with).
Tuesday Recaps
NBA: Lakers rallied to beat Timberwolves 108-102 in OT in NBA play-in tournament game to earn the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference, but the Timberwolves held on to cover after closing as 8.5-point road underdogs (games still stayed Under the betting total of 233.5 points) Earlier, the Hawks (+5) upset the Heat 116-105 to earn the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference (stayed Under 227.5). Road dogs swept 2-0 ATS. Unders were also 2-0.
MLB: Faves went 11-4 with the upsets by the Pirates (+155 vs. Astros), Giants (+135 vs. Dodgers), Marlins (+125 at Phillies) and Padres (+124 at Mets). Home teams led 10-5. Overs also went 10-5. On the season, faves lead 104-64 with 2 pick-’ems. Home teams improved their slim lead to 89-81 lead. Overs increased their lead to 94-69-7 (57.7%).
NHL: Faves went 7-3 on Tuesday with the upsets by the Blackhawks (+425 in 5-2 win at Penguins) and Jets (+100 in 3-1 win at Wild). Home/road teams split 5-5. Over/Unders also split 5-5.
Wednesday MLB Best Bets
Nationals First 5 Innings +135 at Angels: We know the Nationals are one of the worst teams in baseball, but we also know that the Angels’ offense doesn’t always give its pitchers much run support. Mackenzie Gore (2-0, 2.38 ERA) has two of the Nats’ four wins so far this season, so we’re counting on him to keep them in this game early and hopefully have the lead at the 5-inning mark.
Giants F5 +145 vs. Dodgers: We’re also getting a nice plus-price in this matchup as we’ve seen the Dodgers off to a mediocre start at 6-6 and were just shut out last night by the Giants, who send out Alex Cobb (2.53 ERA, 1.13 WHIP with 12 K’s in 10 2/3 innings). The Dodgers counter with Clayton Kershaw, but the Giants are certainly familiar with him and I have no problem fading him.
