MLB value plays for Thursday, June 8

Greg Peterson posts his daily handicapped MLB lines for every game every day. Based on his lines vs. the actual lines, here is where Peterson sees value on today’s menu. Peterson also does a daily podcast, The Baseball Betting Show, on which he breaks down every game every day.

Red Sox vs. Guardians (-115). Greg’s Line: Guardians -149.

Aaron Civale has made just three starts this season, but he was getting over 13 strikeouts per nine innings when doing his rehab at the minor league level. At the MLB level, he has allowed just four runs in 17 1/3 innings this season. He faces a Red Sox lineup that is hitting just .227 on the road compared to .288 at home, the biggest home and road divide in the league. The Red Sox give Matt Dermody, who posted a 4.50 ERA for AAA Worcester, his first MLB start of the season.

Giants (-190) vs. Rockies. Greg’s Line: Rockies +144.

While Chase Anderson is due for regression, he’s surrendered two runs or fewer in all six of his pitching appearances this season with a 1.69 ERA. He’s backed up by a lineup that leads the National League in home batting average and is facing a starting pitcher in Alex Cobb who’s allowing opponents to hit .270 off of him this season.

Tigers vs. Phillies Total 8. Greg’s Total 7.4.

The Tigers have scored three runs or fewer in six straight games and are last in road batting average at .211 with a league-low 3.2 runs per game on the road. Phillies starter Zack Wheeler has a 4.33 ERA, but he has a 2.85 FIP with 10.4 strikeouts to 2.1 walks per nine innings while the Phillies bullpen has the third-best ERA in the league the past 30 days.
