MLB season to start April 7 as lockout ends; Dodgers are World Series favorites

Major League Baseball and the owners came to an agreement with the MLB Players Association to end the lockout and agree to a new CBA on Thursday, paving the way for the season to start just a week later than originally planned.

Opening Day is scheduled for April 7 and the regular season has been extended three days to account for the games that were previously canceled. Teams will play nine-inning doubleheaders to make up for the other games that were supposed to be played during the original first week of the season, leading to a full 162-game season.

With over 200 free agents still unsigned, and over 30 position players that had at least 300 plate appearances last season among those looking for work, transactions will come fast and furious as teams look to get ready for the season. The reports are that Spring Training games could start as early as March 18.

That is an incredibly fast turnaround, but hopefully the players have been staying in shape, despite not being able to talk to coaches or trainers during the lockout. It will be something we have to consider from a futures betting standpoint to say the least.

Betting odds are going to be moving around quite a bit as free agents get signed and trades take place. Here’s what DraftKings Sportsbook has for right now, and it might be in your best interest to see which teams could be the most active in free agency to get ahead of some of these prices.

As far as the odds to win MVP and Cy Young, those probably won’t move too much, but additions to the lineup will increase the chances for guys to score runs or rack up RBI, so we could certainly see some adjustments to those prices as free agents are signed.
