Jeff Siegel's Horse Racing Picks for Friday 8/5

By Jeff Siegel  (Xpressbet)

Xpressbet writer Jeff Siegel offers his top plays for Friday.

Saratoga Race No. 6 (3:55 p.m. ET/12:55 p.m. PT)

#8 Stellar Lady (3-1)

Produced a strong late kick in her debut on dirt last month, rallying from almost 10 lengths back to finish eagerly behind a sharp debut winner (Leave No Trace) while winding up more than 10 lengths clear of the rest. With Brahms on the bottom side of her pedigree, the daughter of Shackleford should be able to duplicate if not improve upon her main track form with the switch to grass, so with a race under her belt for trainer Kenny McPeek (very strong stats with the second-time starter angle) she should be along in time.

Saratoga Race No. 8 (5:05 p.m. ET/2:05 p.m. PT)

#9 Tiz the Bomb (7-2)

A multiple-stakes winner with earnings in excess of $1 million, the Kenny McPeek-trained sophomore looked sharp in a recent turf work to indicate he’s doing well, and against this lesser field he should be able to get over from his outside draw, secure some cover and then kick home when given his cue. At 7-2 on the morning line, he’s worth an aggressive play in the Win pool and in the various rolling exotics.
