Jeff Siegel's Best Bets: Looks like Cake
back to news
Xpressbet analyst Jeff Siegel offers Best Bets Thursday-Saturday. On Thursday at Saratoga, Stan the Man won ($3.90) and Fetching placed ($4.60)
Saratoga - Race 2. Post 1:44 ET.
5-The Angry Man (9/5)
In a below-average maiden special weight nine-furlong event that drew just six runners, let’s take a stand with this developing 3-year-old gelding. He shows rising speed figures in each of his four career starts and could find himself as the controlling speed or at least in a pace-pressing position in a race with very soft early fractions. With even a modest forward move, the son of Summer Front seems quite capable of earning his diploma, so at 9/5 on the morning line he’s a win play and rolling exotic single.
Saratoga – Race 7. Post: 4:41 ET
4-I’ll Take the Cake (3-1)
Here’s a dangerous Florida shipper with plenty in her favor in this extended sprint for $40,000 claiming fillies and mares. She remains above her claim level for clever connections and though overmatched and well-beaten last time out she can get back on the proper track with a repeat of her race before last. An 11-time winner, the 6-year-old mare is spot-on following a recent bullet half-mile workout (:47 2/5, fastest of 36) over the local main track. The barn’s “go to” rider, Tyler Gaffalione, takes the call, so there’s plenty of value to be found at or near her morning line of 3-1.
