Santa Anita First Race – Post time: 12:30 PT
1-Subconscious (8/5)
Was a graded stakes winner over the Santa Anita lawn during the fall meeting but then couldn’t overcome a poor draw and weakened to finish a respectable fifth in the Hollywood Derby-G1 at Del Mar in November. Freshened and sporting a solid series of recent workouts, the Richard Mandella-trained gelding tackles considerably easier foes in this year’s renewal of the Thunder Road S.-G3. His favorable inside post position in a race that projects to be slowly run early makes him the logical controlling speed.

6-Tiz the Bomb (6-1)
High class 3-year-old makes his seasonal debut in this year’s edition of the Holy Bull S.-G3 and has been training lights out for his first start since finishing an excellent second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf S.-G1 last November. Genuine, versatile, and consistent, the Ken McPeek-trained colt can be equally effective on dirt and has the natural early speed to press the pace or the late kick to produce the last run depending upon what’s required. At 6-1 on the morning line he offers an excellent gamble in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics.
