Santa Anita - First Race. Post time: 12:30 PT
7 - Houndstooth (3-1)
Finally makes it to the races at age five and this $500,000 son of Uncle Mo has trained like a gelding that is fit and ready to win first time out of the box. A series of strong works for trainer Richard Mandella indicate he has plenty of ability, and from a comfortable outside post with John Velasquez in the saddle he shouldn't have an excuses in this six furlong turf sprint. We'll make him a win play at or near his morning line of 3-1.
Santa Anita - Ninth Race. Post time: 4:45 PT
3-Mo Them Down (9/5)
Drops into a maiden claimer for the first time, switches to turf, stretches out to a distance of ground, and adds Lasix, all legitimate reasons why this lightly-raced son of Mohaymen should leave his previous form behind. A strong recent workout is another plus, so if he's taken back and allowed to run late - which we suspect is his preferred running style - the Phil D'Amato-trained gelding should be along in plenty of time.
