Gulfstream Park Ninth Race – Post time: 4:42 ET
5 – Can’t Buy Love (9/2)
A winner of both of her one-turn grass races to date, this daughter of Twirling Candy returns off a six-week respite as a first-time Lasix user. Though tackling tougher foes, she could easily be up to task for the powerful jockey/trainer combo of Tyler Gafflione and Mike Maker. A prototype late-running sprinter, the 3-year-old filly projects to settle in the second flight and then have dead aim with every chance from the quarter pole home. At 9/2 on the morning line, she’s worth a gamble in the win pool and in rolling exotic play.
Oaklawn Park Eighth Race – Post time: 4:40 CT
6 – The Sound (2-1)
This late-developing and rapidly progressing son of Hard Spun earned a triple-digit Beyer speed figure in just his third start when crushing a first-level allowance field at Aqueduct in late November while taking his foes gate-to-wire. Today, the Brad Cox-trained colt tries two-turns for the first time but based on pedigree the extra distance should be no problem. He’s 2-1 on the morning line and there’s value at that price if you can get it.
