It’s Super Bowl Weekend, but we have a full day of action on Saturday as Team Tuley continues to look for value at horse racing tracks from coast to coast in addition to most other sports in action.

Last Saturday, I blanked on my three long-shot plays as it was a pretty chalky day at the tracks I was playing for cash and in a contest as I was trying to qualify for the 2022-23 National Horseplayers Championship that will be held at the Horseshoe (formerly Bally’s) in March. My friend Ed Sehon (aka Mr. Ed) gave out the winning Late Pick 5 ($.50 ticket cost $48) at Gulfstream Park and Rampart race and sports book manager Duane Colucci had the Late Pick 4 ($.50 ticket cost $45) but they were also victims of the chalky results as the Pick 5 paid just $97.50 and the Pick 4 paid $51.60.

This Saturday, Sehon and Colucci join me with plays at Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs in Florida, Aqueduct in New York, Oaklawn Park in Arkansas and Santa Anita in California as we live up to our promise of having picks from coast to coast.

Good luck today (and every day)!

Tampa Bay Race No. 4 (1:53 p.m. ET/10:53 a.m. PT)

Ed Sehon likes #11 Bird’s Eye View (6-1 morning line). “Under-appreciated, journeyman trainer Mike Dini sends out 9-year-old gray gelding in turf route. Steady sort has been here and delivered three scores before from 14 TB starts. Huge rider upgrade to Tyler Gaffalione indicates he’s ready for big effort. Winner of $413,000 looks to further feather his nest. Fly, birdie, fly! Wager: Win and bet top and bottom in Exactas and Trifectas with 2,8.

Tampa Bay Race No. 6 (2:56 p.m. ET/11:56 a.m. PT)

Ed Sehon finds much to like about #2 Sign of Peace (5-1 morning line). “This improving gal ships west from Gulfstream Park to face a lackluster cast of cheap fillies and mares. Sizzling :46 ⅗ mid-January, 4-furlong work and addition of top rider Antonio Gallardo are the keys to seizing biggest piece of $28K purse. Wager: Win.”

Gulfstream Park Race No. 7 (3:08 p.m. ET/12:08 p.m. PT)

Ed Sehon likes #5 Charlie T. (morning line 12-1). “I have no idea who under-the Radar trainer Thomas Lee is, but he’s done excellent job navigating sharp filly around several lesser racing venues on her way to the big leagues at GP. Whether she can compete against a salty squad of higher-class ladies is anyone’s guess —  but I think longshot fits this field to a T. Wager: Win, Place and Show.”

Aqueduct Races Nos. 7-10 (3:21 p.m. ET/12:21 p.m. PT)

Duane Colucci likes a $.50 Pick 4 (cost $45)

Race 7: 1,3,6,7,9

Race 8: 1,5,7

Race 9: 1,3,4

Race 10: 4,7

Gulfstream Park Races Nos. 9-12 (4:07 p.m. ET/1:07 p.m. PT)

Duane Colucci likes a $.50 Pick 4 (cost $36)

Race 9: 4,6,9,10

Race 10: 3,6,8

Race 11: 3,4

Race 12: 10,11,12

Tampa Bay Race No. 8 (4:16 p.m. ET/1:16 p.m. PT)

Dave Tuley likes #7 Uphold the Law (8-1 morning line). “This is a very wide-open ungraded stakes, but this 5-year-old gelding looks like an overlay. This Michael Stidham trainee steps up in class and he’s good at placing his horses (16% in ungraded stakes). Uphold the Law knows how to find the winner’s circle at 4-for-5 but should still be overlooked in the wagering as a shipper (Stidham 18%). Wager: Win and Place.”

Tampa Bay Race Nos. 8-11 (4:16 p.m. ET/1:16 p.m. PT)

Ed Sehon likes a $.50 Pick 4 (cost $80)

Race 8: 2,3,5,7

Race 9: 1,9

Race 10: 2,3,7,11

Race 11: 1,5,6,8,10

Duane Colucci likes a $.50 Pick 4 (cost $48)

Race 8: 2,3,5,7

Race 9: 1,9

Race 10: 2,7,9,11

Race 11: 8,10,12

Oaklawn Park Races Nos. 7-10 (4:38 p.m. ET/1:38 p.m. PT)

Duane Colucci likes a $.50 Pick 4 (cost $48)

Race 7: 5,6,8,9

Race 8: 5,6,8,10

Race 9: 3,4,7

Race 10: 2,7

Tampa Bay Race No. 10 (5:18 p.m./2:18 p.m. PT)

Ed Sehon likes #11 Litigate (5-1 morning line) in the Grade 3, $250,000 Sam F. Davis Stakes. “Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher ships promising son of Blame west for major-league class test, following sharp second in Gulfstream mile. Luis Saez tags along after bullet work at PBD on Jan. 31. Look for Triple Crown nominee to plead case early. Centennial barn one to watch. Wager: Win and box in Exactas and Trifectas with 2,3,7.”

Dave Tuley likes #10 Dreaming of Kona (12-1 morning line). “This 3-year-colt has a shot to steal this early steppingstone on the Kentucky Derby Trail. Trainer Aldana Spieth only hits at 10%, but 21% when using husband jockey Scott Spieth. Dreaming of Kona is 2-for-3, though his last win was by DQ in the ungraded Mucho Macho Man at Gulfstream, so handicappers might not give as much credit for that victory, but he fits here. Wager: Win and Place.”

Santa Anita Race No. 9 (7:38 p.m./4:38 p.m. PT)

Dave Tuley likes three fillies in the $100,000 Sweet Life Stakes that are all 6-1 on the morning line: #7 Itzel, #8 Excelia and #10 Fun Money. Itzel and Excelia should be battling for the lead on the downhill turf course with Fun Money sitting off the pace. It’s hard to separate, so we’ll just box 7,8,10 in Exactas and Trifectas. If the betting public lets one of them drift up to double digits, we’ll bet them to Win.”

A Numbers Game: Be careful betting baseball games right now, if they don’t involve teams still trying to make the playoffs. Teams that have clinched or teams that are completely out of it will be approaching games far differently. View more tips.
