The Breeders’ Cup is behind us, but Team Tuley continues to look for value at tracks from coast to coast.

I’m joined by regular contributors Ed Sehon (aka Mr. Ed from his Saratoga and Keeneland columns here at and Rampart race and sports manager Duane Colucci. We live up to the coast to coast claim with plays at Aqueduct in New York, Laurel Park in Maryland, Gulfstream Park in Florida, Churchill Downs in Kentucky and Del Mar in California.

Good luck today (and every day!).

Aqueduct Race No. 5 (1:46 p.m. ET/10:46 a.m. PT)

Ed Sehon likes #2 Bat Flip (9-2 morning line). “Improving, expensive ($350,000) son of Good Magic moves up off initial victory to The Central Park stakes for Todd Pletcher and regular rider Jose Ortiz. Proven ability to break quickly and close tactically puts him in position to compete early and late. Still Bat Flip crazy after five weeks. Wager: Win and box in Exactas and Trifectas with 3,6 and 10.”

Gulfstream Park Race No. 4 (1:52 p.m. ET/10:52 a.m. PT)

Ed Sehon likes #8 Surrogate (2-1 morning line). “Gelded son of superstar Arrogate poised to break maiden in return to turf for conditioner Patrick Bioncone. He’s rested and ready to score in stretch under hot jock Manny Vasquez. Wager: Win.”

Churchill Downs Race No. 3 (1:59 p.m. ET/10:59 a.m. PT)

Ed Sehon likes #6 Lugan Knight (5-1 morning line). “Early indications are this guy is real deal following two excellent efforts for trainer Michael McCarthy and jockey Florent Geroux. Solid works attest to his preparedness. Cutback to 6 furlongs a plus. Good night, Lugan, good Knight. Wager: Win.”

Aqueduct Races Nos. 7-10 (2:44 p.m. ET/11:44 a.m. PT)

Duane Colucci likes a $.50 Pick 4 (cost $60)

Race 7: 1,3,6

Race 8: 6,7

Race 9: 1,3,4,8,9

Race 10: 1,3,9,10

Laurel Park Race No. 7 (3:08 p.m. ET/12:08 p.m. PT)

Dave Tuley likes #2 Defend (15-1 morning line) in the $100,000 City of Laurel Stakes. “Two of the other speed horses (#3 Uncle Buddy and #12 Twisted Ride) have been scratched from this race, so I’m hoping #2 Defend will be able to steal it wire to wire. He will have to put away the other remaining front-runners (#7 Al Loves Josie and #9 Little Vic), but I’ll box those in case it’s a merry-go-round race. Wager: Win on 2 and Exacta and Trifecta boxes with 2,7,9.”

Aqueduct Race No. 8 (3:14 p.m. ET/12:14 p.m. PT)

Duane Colucci likes #7 Runninsonofagun (2-1 morning line). “This 3-year-old gelding had a huge figure in the Bold Ruler. His Ragozin is close to that of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. He has 3 wins over this course and a huge workout last week. Easy winner. Bet 7 to Win and key over 1,5,6 in Exactas, Trifectas and reverse.”

Aqueduct Race No. 9 (3:43 p.m. ET/12:43 p.m. PT)

Dave Tuley likes #12 Cold Hard Cash (10-1 morning line) in the Grade 2 Red Smith Stakes. “In this race named after one of my all-time favorite sportswriters, this 5-year-old gelding should be able to sit off the pace and be picking up horses down the stretch. Trainer Linda Rice is stepping him up in class but has him in a good spot. Rice also hitting 18% when using jockey Jose Lezcano the past two months. Wager: Win and Place.”

Churchill Downs Race Nos. 9-12 (4:57 p.m. ET/1:57 p.m. PT)

Ed Sehon likes a $.50 Pick 4 (cost $40)

Race 9: 3,4,5,6

Race 10: 4

Race 11: 1,5,8,9

Race 12: 2,3,6,9,11

Duane Colucci likes a $.50 Pick 4 (cost $96)

Race 9: 3,5,6,7

Race 10: 1,3,4,9

Race 11: 1,4,6,8

Race 12: 6,11,12

Churchill Downs Race No. 10 (5:27 p.m. ET/2:27 p.m. PT)

Duane Colucci likes #3 American Rockette (10-1 morning line) in the Grade 2 Golden Rod Stakes. “Skipped Breeders’ Cup after two greenly run stakes efforts. New pilot Florent Geroux will have his hands full. I love this price. Hope he’s not rank again. Bet 3 to Win and key over 1,4,9 in Exactas, Trifectas and reverse.”

Del Mar Race No. 7 (6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT)

Duane Colucci likes #7 Irideo (10-1 morning line) in the Grade 2 Seabiscuit Handicap. “This Marcelo Polanco runner loves this track and jockey Hector Berrios knows the horse. He will have to hold off the Brad Cox runner late. Polanco and Berrios are super successful when teaming up and they have a nice $8.62 ROI. Bet 7 to Win and key over 3,4,5 in Exactas, Trifectas and reverse.”

Ed Sehon likes #4 Smooth Like Strait (4-1 morning line). “Johnny Velazquez ships west with Grade 1 vet for this $250,000 stakes after surrendering contested lead in Breeders’ Cup Mile at Keeneland. He can handle short break and slightly longer distance. When he visits winner’s circle, I’ll be sipping smooth Buffalo Trace. Wager: Win.”

Dave Tuley likes #2 Masteroffoxhounds (12-1 morning line). “I like Colucci and Sehon’s picks as well (and will do some Team Tuley boxes), but I’ll try to beat both with Masteroffoxhounds as the speed of the speed. It’s not easy to wire a turf route with so many talented late runners, but I’ll take my chances with this 5-year-old that did just that in his last race at Santa Anita. Wager: Win and Place on 2 and Exacta and Trifecta boxes with 2,4,7.”
