2023 Charles Schwab Challenge Odds: How to bet on Michael Block this weekend
We’re not even halfway through 2023 and we might already have the best sports story of the year. At last week’s PGA Championship, Michael Block, a PGA Head Professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, California, came out of nowhere to finish tied for 15th in the event. In doing so, Block took home $288,333 in prize money, while also receiving an automatic spot in next year’s PGA Championship field. The magical weekend from the 46-year-old included a hole in one in the final round. And now Block will be playing in the Charles Schwab Challenge, as he was given a sponsor’s exemption for the event — as well as the RBC Canadian Open in a few weeks. With that said, Block is now a popular player to bet on this week, and we’re here to give you an idea of the ways you can bet on him — and whether it’s worth it to do so.

Michael Block Round 1 Tee Time at the Charles Schwab Challenge
Block is going to be getting some superstar treatment after his play at last week’s major, as he's teeing off in the afternoon. The Cinderella story will continue at 2:28 p.m. ET, so the national television coverage of the event will heavily feature the 46-year-old.

Block is listed at +60000 to win this week’s tournament, and it probably goes without saying that this isn’t worth touching. While this is an unbelievable story, this field includes top golfers like Scottie Scheffler, Tony Finau, Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland and many others. That makes it very hard to believe that the 46-year-old is going to be able to go out and win this tournament. However, it isn’t outrageous to think that he can make some noise again. More on that below.
Michael Block Odds to Make the Cut at Charles Schwab Challenge
Make The Cut |
+160 |
Miss The Cut |
-250 |
At this point there’s really no value in taking him not to make it to the weekend. In fact, this course really should play to his strengths quite a bit and a lot of sportsbooks are boosting his odds to make the cut. Colonial Country Club favors players that can hit their irons well, and it’s not necessarily one in which you need to be able to hit it long. Block showed that he can really dial it in with his irons last week — his hole in one was hit with his 7-iron, which has to make you think of Roy “Tin Cup” McAvoy — and he’s also very sturdy with his putter. With that in mind, it shouldn’t shock anybody if he does ultimately make the cut. After all, this is a guy that has actually been playing some high-level golf for longer than you might think. He has played in 25 PGA Tour events and has made the cut four times in his career. But he has never had this much momentum, and he is eager to show the world that he isn’t a fluke.
Best Way to Bet Michael Block at Charles Schwab Challenge
I think the best way to bet on Block this weekend is by taking him to make the cut at +160. I wouldn’t suggest putting much on it, but it’s a fun way to get in on the action and be part of the most exciting thing going on in sports this weekend. I also wouldn’t mind a quarter-unit sprinkle on Block to finish Top 20 at +1400 odds. In hearing Block speak this week, it’s clear that this is a guy that feels he belongs. Of course, Block is having fun with the story and some of that comes with a little self-deprecation. But he was vocal about believing that he can make some noise at this event. And this should be a better golf fit for him than Oak Hill Country Club.
