It has been a long time since a player won the Heisman Trophy in back-to-back years, but Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson is not a long shot to repeat.

The last and only player to claim college football’s top award in consecutive years was Ohio State running back Archie Griffin in 1974 and 1975.

Jackson won the Heisman as a sophomore. He accounted for 51 touchdowns in the regular season while passing for 3,390 yards and rushing for 1,538. But his highlight-reel season ended on a downer as Jackson was shut down in a lopsided bowl loss to Louisiana State.

The Westgate sports book opened Heisman odds for the 2017 season on Sunday, and Southern California quarterback Sam Darnold was made the favorite at 5-1 odds.

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield is the second choice at 7-1, followed by Jackson at 8-1. Jackson topped Clemson’s Deshaun Watson, who’s headed for the NFL Draft, and Mayfield in last year’s voting.
