The Kansas City Chiefs opened as 3.5-point favorites over the Tampa Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV, to be played on Sunday, Feb. 7, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., but settled in at Chiefs -3 at the end of early wagering Sunday night.

The Super Bowl line was first posted at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas during the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship game (approximately 6:18 p.m. PT/9:18 p.m. ET). The SuperBook posted it at that time as the Chiefs were leading 31-15 and in possession of the ball after Buffalo QB Josh Allen was intercepted deep in KC territory. The Chiefs fell behind 9-0 in the first quarter, but rallied per usual and led 21-12 at halftime before going on to win 38-24, covering as 3-point home favorites. The Chiefs are going for their second straight NFL title and third overall.

Earlier Sunday, the Buccaneers upset the Green Bay Packers 31-26 as 3-point road underdogs at Lambeau Field and %plussign5 on the moneyline to earn the right to be the first NFL team to play the Super Bowl in its home stadium.

The Over/Under opened at 57.5 points and was lowered to 57 within a minute. Some Vegas books put the total at 56.5 and others at 57.5, and the consensus total sat at 57 for the first few hours of wagering but was down to 56.5 as of 10 p.m. PT.

There was also early movement on the spread. Around 7:47 p.m. PT, the South Point moved from Chiefs -3.5 to -3, making that the consensus line in Las Vegas with five books at -3 and four holding the line at -3.5. Circa Sports and the Westgate were among the books adding extra juice to the Chiefs -3 at -120.

In advance wagering last week, Chiefs were listed as 2.5-point faves if this matchup were to take place (all other advance wagers were refunded) at the South Point and William Hill books in Nevada. The Chiefs were bet up to -3 (EVEN) at William Hill later in the week. The highest advance line we saw was the Chiefs -5.5 vs. the Buccaneers at PointsBet books in New Jersey, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Colorado and Michigan (where legal wagering just started Friday), but the early consensus remained Chiefs -3 and that’s again where we stood as of 10 p.m. PT Sunday.
