The Match sounds like it should be boxing instead of golf. It seems unlikely that The Match V between Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau will see haymakers or uppercuts, but there could be plenty of jabs between the two players on Nov. 26.
The Westgate Superbook popped up odds on Tuesday, posting both players at -110. This match isn’t until the day after Thanksgiving, so there will be plenty of time for wagering.
Brooks and Bryson will play at The Wynn Golf Club, just behind the Las Vegas Strip. The course was redesigned by Tom Fazio in 2019 and boasts one of the priciest greens fees in the country. Certainly Koepka and DeChambeau can afford them, along with whatever prize money is on the line. That will be announced later this week.
The Match V will be 12 holes, which is a number that drew some raised eyebrows from members of the golf media, but a one-on-one match over 18 holes does feature a lot of downtime, even if the mic’d up players are bantering back and forth. It would feature a lot more downtime with DeChambeau, whose deliberate nature was the subject of Koepka’s initial barb.
This has been a rivalry for well over two years. Even though the two seemingly got along during Team USA’s win at the Ryder Cup, this is a highly-anticipated event with some big-time bragging rights on the line.
More information will come as the week goes along and we’ll update the post and the odds at that time.
