NASCAR top drivers will do whatever it takes to win the $1 million prize for taking first at the Monster Energy All-Star Race in Charlotte tonight (FS1, 8 p.m. ET).
The history of the All-Star race is laced with incredible finishes and high drama. Due to nature of the short field, daring pit strategies and no filter when it comes to wrecking one another, there is less of attraction to our typical style of wagering, which focuses on driver matchups. Instead of focusing on matchups, we are likely better off to adopt our Talladega mentality and look for a race winner.
If looking to make a wager this evening, I would have to target a driver with good odds from a value perspective.
The drivers who make the cut for such a wager are listed below. My standard disclaimer: Wagering on a winner of any race is generally not a preferable way to turn a profit because of the level of takeout incorporated in these wagers. However, if you are looking to get involved, this is possibly the best value when considering how these races often shake out.
Clint Bowyer (14-1): He has the mentality to turn it on and get the win with little regard to virtually anything else. Double digit-odds and his age give him some value here.
Aric Almirola (20-1): His car has been blazing fast this weekend. Again we are dealing with a driver who got turned in route to a Daytona 500 win. I believe that he believes that he “owes” the series a shot at payback. Good value on all fronts
Erik Jones (20-1): This is a driver who is rapidly heating up. Simply put, he would be better placed above several drivers at lower odds.
