Who does renowned sports bettor Billy Walters like in Super Bowl LVII?
Walters sat down with Brent Musburger at VSiN’s South Point studio in Las Vegas for more than an hour, his first interview to promote his new book, "Gambler: Secrets of a Life at Risk," coming Aug. 15 from publisher Simon and Schuster.
Walters covers a lot of ground in his book and the interview, including his rise to become the Michael Jordan of sports bettors to his fall – an insider trading conviction and prison time. (Read more from Ben Fawkes.) VSiN will broadcast the interview in a one-hour special, starting at 9 p.m. ET.
So what is it? Eagles or Chiefs?
“I really don’t have someone that I’m ready to bet on,” Walters said. “I got to get some major information cleaned up a little bit and then we’ll see what the line is.”
That said, he is “leaning a little bit toward Kansas City, but I’m not 100% sure that I’m going to bet on Kansas City. There’s a lot of things that we’ll have to get figured out between now and then. Probably be Kansas City or nothing.”
Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman already has been ruled out of the big game with a pelvic injury. On Tuesday, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said that Kadarius Toney (ankle) and JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) were practicing and likely to play.
But Walters warns. “The next thing you’ve got to figure out, not just whether they’re going to play or not — is how much are they going to be able to contribute.”
In case you are wondering, Musburger asked what was Walters’ biggest Super Bowl win.
“The New Orleans Saints,” he said without hesitation. “When they played the Colts [in 2010], I bet on them to win the conference on a future when the year began,” Walters said. “I bet on them to win the Super Bowl and when the Super Bowl came around. I bet three and a half million dollars on them to win a Super Bowl. And then I won another couple of million bucks on the futures.”
