Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City set up an all-English Champions League final in midweek, but before they battle it out for the biggest prize in football later in the month, the two face off against each other Saturday in the VSiN EPL Betcast kick-off from the Etihad at 12:30 p.m. EST.
Both sides are expected to make changes from the starting XI that booked their places in Istanbul for this one, and with City already certain of the Premier League title, it’s arguably a bigger game for Chelsea, as they need points for Champions League places.
Pep Guardiola's side may appeal to some bettors at -110, with Chelsea also looking rather tempting at + 350, but I think the draw is the most likely outcome. I have a small lean towards the points being shared, which is + 250.
The two met at Wembley in last month's FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea edging out a slender 1-0 win and another close encounter is what I am expecting again on Saturday.
City did win the reverse fixture 3-1 at Stamford Bridge and a repeat of that score-line is available at 16-1 odds, but that was before Thomas Tuchel arrived in London; under the German manager, the Blues are a formidable defensive outfit.
In 24 matches in charge under Tuchel, 22 have cashed under 2.5 and they have kept a clean sheet (shut out their opponent) in five of their last six matches. Add to that it's a Betcast and you can see why I love the under 2.5 goals, which is available at -150.
With the title already in the bag, City EPL matches have been played in first gear (four of their last six cashing under 2.5 goals) and given that both have a Champions League final and neither want to give much away before that huge match, I feel that the two will be sizing each other up and the under is a nice play.
If you are looking for a play with a bit more juice in the price, the 0-0 detector has been fully charged, new batteries have been installed and it has been making some heavy sounds around this match. No goal-scorer in the match is available at 8-1, which also looks like a nice play.
