A.I. Pick of the Week (1/22)

We’ve been tinkering with the Artificial Intelligence programs at 1/ST BET, which gives us more than 50 data points (such as speed, pace, class, jockey, trainer and pedigree stats) for every race based on how you like to handicap.

Last week, we won with Brickyard Ride ($5.40) in Santa Anita’s California Cup Sprint Stakes as we went back over .500 at 21-for-41 since taking over this feature. Based on a $2 Win bet on the A.I. Pick of the Week, that’s $82 in wagers and payoffs totaling $85.40 for an ROI of $2.08 for every $2 wagered, breaking even.

This week, I ran the races picked by our stable of handicapping friends at “Team Tuley’s Thoroughbred Takes” through the 1/ST BET programs and came up with our A.I. Pick of the Week:

Saturday, Jan. 22

Gulfstream Race No. 2 (12:29 p.m. ET/9:29 a.m. PT)

#4 Awesome Family (6-5 ML odds)

* Awesome Family ranks 1st in 22 of the 52 factors used by 1/ST BET A.I.

* This newly turned 4-year-old gelding also ranks 1st in 9 of the “Top 15 Factors” at betmix.com, including best speed in last race, average lifetime earnings, average earnings at the track, best percentage in the money and best jockey stats for Tyler Gaffalione.

* He is also in the Top 5 in 5 of the other 6 categories, including percentage of horses beaten, average late pace and trainer stats for Ralph Nicks.

A Numbers Game: Reminder that when it comes to more popular teams (i.e. UConn), there’s not a huge rush to grab futures bets preseason. They were 18/1 then to win a national championship, and were 15/1 right before the tournament. View more tips.
