1/ST BET A.I Pick of the Week (7-17)

We’ve been tinkering with the Artificial Intelligence programs at 1/ST BET, which gives us more than 50 data points (such as speed, pace, class, jockey, trainer and pedigree stats) for every race based on how you like to handicap.

Last Saturday, our pick on Con Lima ran second, so we dip below .500 at  8-of-17 overall since taking over this feature. Based on a $2 Win bet on the A.I. Pick of the Week, that’s $34 in wagers and payoffs totalling $40.40 for a still respectable ROI of $2.38 for every $2 wagered.

This week, I ran Saturday’s plays from me and my handicapping friends in my “Tuley’s Thoroughbred Takes” column at vsin.com/horses through the 1/ST BET programs and came up with our A.I. Pick of the Week even though I’m actually taking a long shot in this same race:

Saturday, July 17

Monmouth Race No. 11 (5:12 p.m. ET/2:12 p.m. PT)

#1 Arklow (8-5 ML odds)

  • Arklow ranks 1st in a whopping 26 of the 52 factors used by 1/ST BET A.I.

  • This Brad Cox trainee also ranks 1st in 7 of the “Top 15 Factors” at betmix.com, including best speed at the distance, best earnings at the distance and several trainer categories with Cox.

  • He’s also ranked in the Top 5 in 5 of the other 8 categories, including ranking No. 2 with jockey win percentage for Florent Geroux as well as in-the-money percentage and percentage of horses beaten.
